Primary Doctors on Board???
I had never considered WLS as an option for me. Last October I saw my primary care doctor and she was the one that recommended the surgery. She watched me struggle with WW and low carb, walking at least an hour a day and never losing weight. She said that WLS was perfect for me because I already had good eating and exercise habits. I went to orientation mid-November and really thought about it. I went to NY to visit my son for Thanksgiving and he was so supportive of what my doctor said. He'd watched me diet and struggle with food for so many years.
At work I told only one person, who happens to be HR. Since then, I've told three other co-workers. In my personal life, my closest friends know. I figure it's nobody's business if they're not close to me.

My PCP was totally on-board. Our medical group has bariatric programs at 3 locations and I think they make sure to educate the other docs. Or maybe she's just awesome.

I felt the same way about telling my internist, but he was very supportive. I had been thru the weight loss thing with him for years and due to my health issues he agreed that it would benefit me. He helped me with everything I needed to do for insurance. You may be surprised at the response of your internist.
