Dr. C always has a lower weight for his folks that he gives them, but the truth is - if you do what he instructs, its definitely possible to get there!

I was incredibly strict until I called goal - only because I did not *want* to have to be in losing mode forever, Me N Ron White have a lot of "give up" in us.  :}  I have caught a lot of flack about it sometimes, but I do not mind.  It worked for me and worked well, and gave me a chance to see how my body actually really runs best! (on fewer carbs).

Good luck to you, Seaview!

And ps - I still track (which a lot of folks did not care to do losing and do not care to do on maintenance) but it helps me to not find maintenance difficult at all.  I use a program called dietpower.com and it does all the math for me - I tell it what macros I want to stay within, and its nearly been a year I have been maintaining, so - I give it two snaps up in a Z formation!

Thanks for your response and yes..I need to write down my food...right now he says as much protein as I want and no carbs except green and occasional fruit...so i'm not so concerned about calories etc..but I need to get in the habit of tracking for life otherwise....anyhow thanks so much. SEAVIEW

You are welcome!  One of my feedings per day was a stick of cheese and a few cherries - and I could still say under 20 g of carbs - so maybe just a few cherries, or some dark berries for your fruit?

My favorite thing to eat is what I call Mexican ma****s just whatever meat (depending on caloric needs, so turkey for lower, beef or pork for higher) a T of green salsa and a slice o chee!  Keeps my tum full and the fats keep me satiated longer.  Sometimes I dump some curry powder and coconut milk in there, or sometimes moroccan or greek spices and feta! Yumz.  Anyway, I just make up all my feedings the night before and that's my choice for the next day - I do not have to do a lot of mental aerobics trying to "convince" myself about good choices.

I used myfitnesspal.com until I got to maintenance, but I really dig dietpower.  And too if you are lacking in a nutrient, you can click a thing that tells you what all you regularly eat that gives you that nutrient, or whips up a database of it.  I wanted to be able to supplement with food as much as I could, which is amusing now (since I do not absorb protein really well at all and need shakes for that at this point) but handy nonetheless!  Somebody told me it was a waste o time and just generic, but I put everything that goes in my mouth in there, and all my exercise, and it has worked for me so far!  If I just stayed at X calories, I would have serious troubles maintaining!  But you know, we are all so different (in clumps) but this is so NOT a chore and helps me feel empowered.

Kind of like balancing your checkbook - you know how much you had to spend on the living stuff, and now you can see what you have to "play" with!

Go baby go!

I am so happy for you that you have done so well and are so close to goal.  Dr. C does push us to make it there.  You can and will make it that last 10 pounds.  I have all the faith in you.  I can't wait until I am at that last 10 pound point...only 65 more pounds to go to make it to the last 10 (providing Dr. C. doesn't change the original goal he set for me!)

Cheering you on for the last 10!  Go Girl!

I really liked that Dr. C had aggressive goals for me. If he hadn't pushed me from the beginning, I think I would have coasted through the first 6 months and never gotten down to my ideal weight.

I also found tracking my food to be enormously helpful. I did it for over 2.5years! (7 months pre-op, 2+ post-op) However, I'm now working on a new thing -- being a more intuitive eater and listening to my body more -- so I've stopped tracking.

It's scary for me but so far it's working out great. I figure I can always start up again if I start to have problems, but I've actually started getting smaller again so I'm going to keep not tracking, at least for a while.

Seaview, I'm in with you on the Holiday Challenge. I would like to be down 15 pounds by December 31st. That would put me at 155 which would leave me with a final 6-10 pounds to shed by my 1 year anniversary on February 17th. My doc doesn't push me with goals at all. He just said that I should get to a BMI of 30 to be successful. Let's do this together.

Should we have a Holiday Challenge here on the LW forum? Jody, would you participate? Anyone else want to set their own goal to meet by year end? Maybe I'll set it up on a separate topic. Would a weekly topic work for us? I need some extra motivation right now. I think I'll put it into my signature so that I always see it!
