I have a date, but now am more scared than excited
Scheduler called today...now I am approved with a date...I have a choice between week before Thanksgiving, and week after Christmas. I think I am going with week after Christmas, because of work, school, and rush of the holidays....
I have been waffling back and forth, and today when I saw my surgeon's number on caller id I was more scared than excited. I know most everyone goes thru this...how do I tell my doubting self to knock it off, and get on with life??
Not that I would be around to know it, but I am a single mom to a 15 yo, and to think I did something of my own freewill that left her without me makes me feel incredibly guilty...=(
I guess its just something everyone has to work thru.

WooHoo! Congratulations on getting approval and a date. Take a deep breath and try to get your determination on.
Start asking questions of folks who have been there and done that before you. We love questions and will more than willing to share.
Hang tough!

I have read and asked and read and asked...lol...I feel like i know as much as I can know going in, the rest will have to be experience
I have had other surgeries, 2 elective and a hysterectomy..none that I thought were a big deal, just went and did them. I dont know if its because Im older and am more cautious now , or if its because Im doing this for ME, but for some reason I keep getting the 'what ifs'
Guess Ive got two months to power thru...lol

Just think how much longer you'll be with your daughter - watch her grow up, have kids, etc by getting yourself healthier. You'll be able to be SO much more active with her too!
Everyone has doubts at some point. I've also had many surgeries - and this one I knew without a doubt I wanted to have. I HAD to get my weight and issues under control. Absolutely the best thing I've done for myself.
Now I run, can get down and up from the floor, fit in an airplane seat, can even bend over and get my stuff out from under the seat in front of me, it takes quite a bit to get me winded, stairs are easy now, as well as many many other things.
Look forward to what you WILL be able to do once you get your weight under control - then there is no looking back!

I am getting ready for my date and have fear, too. BUT all my research says that I have a bigger risk of dying early by not having surgery. It is like a secret that most doctors don't know about. Once you look at the future as a morbidly obese person, it's a "no brainer". I developed type 2 diabetes. No matter how healthy I think I am, there are so many problems waiting in the wings.
You are doing this for yourself, but also for your child, setting a good example of making health a priority.

Congratulations on getting scheduled.
I think being nervous and afraid is normal. I really got nervous right before surgery.
Did you research your surgeon? Have you done everything your surgeon has asked you to do? Start walking or exercising if you can. Try to get yourself in your best shape you can before your surgery.
I really know I am so much more healthy now than before my surgery. There are risks and you have to look at them. Can you talk to your surgeon about your concerns?
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Linda ~
Thanks for this post. As a matter of fact, i have not done everything my surgeon asked me to do. He asked me to try and lose twenty pounds before surgery, and I fiddled around and lost 5 or 6. Thank you for reminding me it is my resposibility as well, to be sure I am in the best possible shape for a great outcome. Back to work on the diet, what a sucky time to be watching what I eat....40th bday celebration, Thanksgiving, and Christmas....lol...But, if I truly want this, this will be the test...=)
