BMI 36ish on Medcost anyone?

Hi,
I am new to this forum...have been following the VSG forum for about a week now. I am going to a seminar tomorrow night. My BMI is about 36, depending on which calculator I use and I am fairly certain that I have sleep apnea. Like most of you, I'm sure, I've been up and down the scale more times than I care to remember and always end up higher than I started.
I've been researching the VSG and will be talking to the insurance person at the seminar tomorrow.
I just wondered if there is anyone here who has similar BMI on Medcost insurance. I would like to know if they made you jump through any hoops or not. I am told this particular practice requires a sleep study so that will be handled....I also have reflux pretty bad but other than that....
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Tiffany

I don't know anything about Medcost but I do know that BCBS/NC wouldn't pay for a sleeve.  The rule of thumb is 40 BMI or above 35 with co-morbidities.  Hopefully you will get the information you need from the meeting.

Welcome to the LW board.  I see you didn't get many answers.  I too do not know anything about your Ins program.  With mine I had to have 3 monthly "supervised" weight loss/weigh ins with PCP, and my sleep apnea and GERD were enough comorbids to be approved with BMI of 39.

So, don't know what to tell you except just ask a lot of questions.  Your surgeons office may know the answers about your Medcost ins, but it doesn't hurt to ask the ins co itself.

Good luck at your meeting and with your decision on the type of surg you decide on, and feel free to post again, anytime.
