Update on my friend's attitude

I got so much help when I shared about my friend's negative attitude about my surgery. I want to share that she has softened. We couldn't talk about it for a long time. Then a few days ago we went on a long walk and she said she knew I was going through with it no matter what anyone said and that she would support me. She even had some humor. She said she refused to eat pureed food, so I know she has done some research of her own.

We have agreed not to discuss unless it comes up naturally. For example, my surgery is 11/23 and she is leaving town for Thanksgiving. Normally I take care of her dog when she travels. Since I don't know when I'll get home and how I'll feel, she has to make other arrangements.

I feel like I am taking charge of at least one area of my life. 

Glad she's coming around. That's got to be a huge relief.

awesome!  so happy she's coming around and so happy that you are standing firm!  this surgery has got to be YOUR decision and nobody else's!  so very happy she's going to support you!!!

I'm glad to hear she's coming around. It will definitely help relieve the stress on your part.  I'm sure once she sees you becoming healthier, she'll be very happy for you!

That is good news!!  It is SO VERY NICE to have the support of our closest friends.  Thanks for the feed back.  Her humor was a nice touch too.  Sounds like she is a true friend after all.

Good job taking care of yourself Wendy.  I'm glad that she's softening a bit.  Don't be surprised if she's the one person that never tells you that you look great.  I have a friend like that who was so opposed to my surgery.  In eight months, she's never thrown a compliment my way, but she doesn't talk bad about my surgery either.   I always throw WW compliments her way on her success.  Everyone is just so darn different, right?

I am so happy to hear she is supporting your decision. I have a very good friend/co-worker  (similar age) who has been obese her WHOLE life (unlike me, who began struggling as an adult) and she was very opposed to my choice, BUT said she will support my decision. Her take on women's view of our weight is "You haven't  been FAT long enough. If you were never thin, you don't miss it"... Well, I MISS IT!!!!!!!!

It is slightly uncomfortable for her and I to discuss my upcoming WLS but we are dealing with it. She and I are the only two at our salon, so she will be performing "damage control" while I am away. She has been very helpful in that regard. I so hope I feel good enough to return quickly, but we will see how I heal...

I hope we reach the point where this isn't such a big issue! Good luck, and if you figure that out, please let me in on how to do that!

I'm so glad she is coming around to be on your side.  I had a friend like that who kept telling me all the bad things that could happen.  Now that I've done so well - she is one of my biggest supporters and is always telling me how good I look!!
