Silly Question about Soup
Maybe this is silly... but it's getting to be soup season again and it got me to thinking.
For soups that have a high liquid content, let's say chicken noodle to keep it simple, am I technically drinking while I'm eating? (i.e. I drink the broth and eat the chicken, etc)
Should we stay away from soups or stews that have a high water content in them?
Yes, this is what I stay awake at night thinking about. I've already decided that my BA Calcium Chews are a liquid because I chew them into a liquefied form before swallowing. hehe..

I was told to try to stay away from soups, that being said,I CANT LOL. I have been making sure I eat the thicker soups and stews and just eat the food portion. I did have some chunky chicken noodle not long ago and added protein powder to it and had that after I ate all of the "food". Good Luck and have some soup but make it thick.
I've been having lentil soup for the past few days but my program calls it carbs not protein so to have protein, I add cheese to it. It is pretty darm close to solid, not liquid. But Wendy's chili certainly isn't and I see lots of folks eating that.

Primary reason they say "no soups" is because it is primarily liquid and won't stay in your pouch for long and you'll feel hungry sooner... So you're getting sometimes a lot of calories if its a cream based soup, but not the feeling of fullness for very long, and you'll be hungry again sooner, thus you'll eat again sooner, and the cycle continues....
But - I know there are thicker soups out there. And I think Chili is fine - a good protein meat/bean based and is thick.
The Calcium Chews are ok to let go right through, as they're a supplement, not a food, and will be absorbed elsewhere in your body... but I eat them like a treat sometimes!!

I wondered the exact same thing and my Bariatric Nurse told me that I should eat it with a fork. Wait 20-30 minutes, then drink the broth if I still want it. I guess I'll be sticking with thicker, stew-like soups.
I think of the BA Calcium Chews as candy - sort of like Starburst. I keep them in my pocket so they get soft and eat them in the late afternoon. Yummy goodness.

My plan is strict. Eat 3x a day with no snacks. They say no soup and I stick to it. I don't eat soup because it won't stay in my sleeve etc. I haven't had soup since the full liquid stage. Occasionally I'll have a packet of Trader Joe's chicken broth when I need something warm and salty. Only 20 calories so I don't worry about it.
If you come to my house, you may find a thick pot of split pea soup in my crockpot this winter. If I do, each bowl will be filled with some sort of protein as well.
I do have chili once a month. Maybe it will be more often when the rains come.

I have eaten white chili (has beans and chick peas as well as chicken) and it filled me up and was high in protein. I also occasionally eat Trader Joe's tomato with roasted red pepper soup.... I only eat 1/2 of a serving so 50 calories and 8 grams of carbs. I know that should be a "no-no" but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
