Stacey, I'm a Sleever so I don't know about RNY and dumping, but I wanted to say that I'm sorry that happened.  :(

The only time I have felt sick from vitamins is when I took them on an empty stomach. I wonder if that is the problem rather than an actual dumping episode. I thought dumping was caused from sugars and fats, but I don't really dump, so I could be wrong.

Sorry you are feeling poorly and I hope it passes soon.

For me, I dump on sugars and too many carbs. I had just eaten and know I had something on my stomach, maybe I took them too fast or something but I ended up having to lay down for a hour to feel better.

Thank you hopefully all the stmptoms will be gone soon.

I am a pre-op and I already have problems with the vitamins, they are too big and get stuck in my throat. Any sugestion?

My first suggestion would be to get a pill slicer/cutter and cut them down to a size you can manage. I often needed to cut them into quarters, which resulted in a powdery mess, but at least I was able to swallow them.

Stacey,
I wonder if it wasn't related to the thing you ate.... or maybe you took the pills too quickly???  My stomach used to hate the sensation of a pill going into it, so I came up with what I will call my pill-taking ceremony.  I take my time with it and have a special way of doing it so that I will get the habit ingrained in me.

If you take several pills at a time, try this:   Get all your pills out and put them into a small, cute cup or bowl. You're trying to make it special, so you are giving it the importance it deserves.  Then pour yourself a glass of whatever drink makes them go down easiest... for me that is ice cold water.  Sit down with your pills and a relaxing magazine or OH!  Take each pill one at a time and be sure to space them out so your tummy doesn't get upset.  I also found that if I sipped too much water for one pill, my pouch got upset, so now I just take a little sip.

You kind of have to figure out what works best for your pouch.  But I definitely think you need to take your time when taking them.

Good luck, sweetie.

For me, an empty stomach and either my multi or my calcium came back up with a vengeance early out (up to about 3 months).

If it happens a couple more times, see if putting a nice protein drink in your pouch (or through it, more accurately) and then taking the vitamins resolves that issue. That did it for me.

Good luck - it's no fun having it happen, and then worrying that you're not getting the supplements you need, which makes it all worse!

Oh - absolutely!  That was an issue for me early out (sorry - wasn't specific in my original reply).

About 12 weeks out, things calmed down noticeably, and by six months out, I could actually eat a real meal first thing in the morning, instead of having to prep my pouch with a shake.

At this point, I'm good with meals, shakes, and my vites on empty or emptying pouch.

But thanks for asking!
