Silly question, I know, but it is the only surgery I've ever had... laporoscopic ,19 years ago (almost/ daughter's Birthday is the 16th!)  I was at my pre-op appt today and one of the nurses asked me how  I responded to that surgery. It was quite easy as I recall. I slept most of that day (don't remember being encouraged to walk walk either) , went and had my haircut the next day! AND visited my cousin who was in town with her baby..

My point is, the nurse said my response to RNY surgery is similar to how one would deal with a lap tubal procedure. Could this possibly be true? And let's not forget I am 19 years older!!!! Anyway, that made my day!

Well, I did about 2 1/2 years ago........but it was in combination with several other procedures. I dont recall my abdominal area bothering me too much.  I did read on OH ( in reference to the VSG ) that in comparison to a C-section the VSG is like a stubbed toe. lol How I hope thats true!!

I had a tubal, but it was right after I had a c-section with my second child.  I did have 2 c-sections, an open gall bladder, carpal tunnel on both hands and a thumb joint replacement.  To me the Lap RNY was the easiest of the bunch!!  It may be that I was really watching my diet and I had also started exercising prior to my surgery so I was probably in better shape too.

Good luck.

I had a tubal at the same time I had my gallbladder out and as far as I'm concerned, they were a cakewalk compared to my RNY surgery.  I'm not well versed at all about VSG surgery and recovery.

I had a tubal last year and VSG this year. I definitely think the VSG was more painful and harder to recover from. The tubal was outpatient, and I was running around doing stuff later that day. The VSG had me down for a few days, but it still wasn't that bad. It is also hands down the best thing I have ever done for myself and would do it over again even if it was twice as painful and hard to recover from!

I totally agree with Shannon.  The VSG was harder than the tubal, but was still, not that bad.  Much easier than C-sections or appendix.

Ive had 3 laproscopic surgeries.......... tubes tied, gall bladder removed, & RNY.   The tubal was the easiest for me. Next easiest was the RNY. The gall bladder was the worst.  Horrible!!!!  Thank goodness we only have 1 Gall bladder, I would never want to experience that again!   Everyone is different though.  Good luck!  Cindy

Thanks girls! I was just wanting to gage it, which of course there is no way! I WILL keep you all posted when my day gets here and after! I really don't worry about pain, just possible setbacks from surgery (And apparently that is totally normal, so I just can't wait to be over the pre-surgery jitters)!

On a footnote, the anesthesiologist walked into the office to add her "take" on surgery day, and looked at me, around the room then said "She's having surgery"?

She and nurse both looked at my chart and agreed I "hide" my weight well! I suppose I should be flattered, but  this "lightweight" thing gets me defensive! I smiled and said "The health issues in my family abound..." Then they smiled and dropped it! No wonder I am compelled to want to keep this surgery to myself!!!
