Can anybody tell me what happened?
I have been having a hard time eating and drinking enough and I guess that is pretty normal for the first week. This is what has me concerned though. I decided to try and get more protein in so I started eating some sf pre made chocolate pudding. I added a little skim milk and unflavored unjury to it. After a few bites, I felt my face start to flush and felt as if my eyes were bulging. My pulse got up to 120 and I felt pretty bad, like pressure in my head. It only lasted a few minutes then I was back to normal. Needless to say, I dumped the pudding out. Anybody know what happened? Thanks.

Definitely dumping...it's possible your body doesn't like the sugar alcohols or you ate it too fast. Not a good feeling huh...I remember those days! The 1st couple of weeks I was SUPER sensitive to sweet tasting "foods". Some people actually become lactose intolerant afterwards for a while too, so it could've been the milk as well.
Good luck sweetie!

Definitely Dumping...Welcome to life after WLS..... I use to HATE Dumping, but now I welcome it because it means my tool is still working! Sweets are my downfall and just knowing that I'm going to dump keeps me under control. A big Dump will put you to bed and it takes several hours to get over it. Fat can make you dump too, so experiment slow with that too.
I am very sensitive to sugar and sugar alcohols (artificial sweeteners). Before I eat anything I always look at the nutrition labels. When I look at the labels I know that I can't be over 8 grams in sugars or I dump. When there are sugar alcohols too then I try to stay under 12. (example: My Atkins bars have Sugars 1 gram and Sugar Alcohols 9 grams. That puts me under 12 but it is close enough that on certain days I might have a few slight symptoms)
If you add up the sugar/sugar alcohols in the pudding, milk, and protein you were probably a lot over that.
It's all about experiment and learning. Everyone reacts differently.

I have never dumped yet *knock on wood* however I did have a reaction to SF foods. I can eat the Jello brand sugar free pudding with no problem. But I tried the Jello brand sugar free pudding mousse, and I had to run to the bathroom within minutes. It went right thru me! This journey is all about experiementing & learning. Cindy

It sounds like Dumping, but I don't know anything about VSG surgery so I don't know if you guys dum*****t. It could also be a lactose intolerance... Some people get sensitive to milk products after surgery. Some for a temporary time, some for permanently.
Since you mentioned you added "milk" to the already made SF jello, the additional milk sugars could have made you dump?
As otehrs have also said, certain things NEVER sat well with me, and Premade Sugar Free Jello is something to this day that gags me. I think it is the "sugar alcohols" in it that does it.
Since your still pretty new out of surgery, maybe try some lower sugar stuff or try and avoid the sugar alcohols. I know I had to avoid them.
Good luck!
Warmly,
Jackie

Thanks. I didn't really know that there was a difference with sugars and sugar alcohols so I will star****ching for that. It was sugar free jello mousse, so I will definitely avoid that. I haven't been able to tolerate much at all. Today I had some cottage cheese with some pureed pears and that went down pretty good! I just really have to concentrate on my fluids too. I have never felt so full in my life!
