Welcome to the boards!
The folks here on the "Lightweight" boards are the best :)
As to what you can eat, that really varies. Honest.
I had RNY and can eat every thing I could pre-op ( I don;t dump on anything and can eat any kind of meat or what not)... I really don't know about the VSG surgery so cannot speak about how much one can eat or not eat on that.
I know also a lot of D/S folks are able to eat really well since theirs is most a malabortion surgery.
Also remember, that the LESS you have to lose (as say compared to someone who started off pre-surgery weighing 350 or higher) it will seem to take "longer" to lose, and our losses may not be as fast. (Although like anything there are always exceptions!) :)
Welcome and best of luck!
Warmly,
Jackie

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!  I'm glad I found a forum that understands what I'm going through and the questions I have.

Welcome Jenni.
I had RNY and I can pretty much eat anything.  I don't eat potatoes very much.  I usually do my protein first and then a veggie if I want more.
Good luck.

RNY on 10/25/10 with
Still pre-op for RNY on Oct. 25th, but went to my NUT appt on Monday, and she was "showing" me with real scale size (plastic) foods, what a portion might be for me once I am cleared for solid food. She said once I reach about week 7, she no longer reccommended protein shakes...

I'm not gonna lie, I am perplexed while reading on this site, because so many of you incorporate a large part of your daily intakes with those shakes. I do think I would love to find one that I really enjoy, so I always keep my protein levels where they belong. I am hoping to find an awesome "coffee" for my am's.

Mine does not approve of the shakes either.  I am certainly not recommending that you not follow your instructions.  I think you should especially early out and I did.  I am continuing to really limit my eating out like she suggested and that was really something that I needed to change and it has made a huge difference.

I think you reach a point that you have to figure out what works for you and what will work for the rest of your life so that you can be successful forever not just while you have the really good restriction and malabsorption.  I actually tried it several different ways.

I found myself snacking on inappropriate things during the afternoon when I did not do the shakes.  If I do the shakes, I don't want anything to snack on.  Like I said, this is just me - we are definently all different.

Good luck and be sure to keep us posted.  Your date will be here before you know it.
