disappointing almost 3 month check up

Had a great group psych appointment then went and met the bariatric md for the first time.

Was told I was behind on the weight loss, only 34 pounds and should have lost closer to 50!
Then was asking about my activiites and then decided maybe I was developing muscle mass, is that possible at this point?

She was running behind and seemed distracted, thought stevia was 40 calories per packet, the one I use is zero.

She just made me feel like I am going to fail again! Just like all the other times.

I also need to ramp up my cardio, which I can understand.

Just needed to vent. Trying to take it all in and maybe chalking up to a bad day.

I don't like it when doctors tell people what they should be losing. We all lose at different rates. As far as the muscle vs. fat, my dietitian and exercise specialist seem to think that doesn't matter that much. (Unless you are huge and bulky like a body builder).

Keep up the good work! You are doing fine and you will not fail as long as you watch your intake, and stay active!

I think she was having a bad day.  34 pounds at 3 months post-op is about right for someone who has less to lose than heavier BMI folks. I think she was really distracted! I think the jury may still be out on whether heavy duty workouts are needed the first year post-op. My surgeon encourages us only to walk and not workout heavily the first year. Hang tough, babeee, you're doing just fine.

Maria,

Don't let other's ignorance get you down.  Ionce had a group leader estimate that I was eating several thousand calories a day.  I had 2 TB of hummus and she calculated 12 ounces worth of calories.

No one knows better than you what you are doing right, and what if anything you need to change.

Personally I never lost 34 pounds on any diet and that includes optifast.

I think 34 lbs is great!!!!!   We all have a different weight lose journey.  You are doing great!!!!  Just keep moving forward.  Cindy

I am sorry you had that experience!  Sometimes people don't realize how much we are depending on what they say to interprete how we are doing!  I think 34# in 3 months is wonderful.  Everyone loses at a different rate and we can't compare ourselves.  You will succeed, this isn't like before!    Keep up the good work!

It's doctors like yours that make me so happy to have the LW board  to turn to for encouragement.  I think you are doing wonderful!!!    If you had a lot more to lose then you definitely would have needed to lose a bigger amount but you are a little peanut and you are going to lose "amounts" slower but get to goal quicker.

Don't get discouraged!!   Make sure you log this in a journal so when you get to goal and someone in your situation posts you can be the first one to speak out and encourage them.

Thanks so much for the support.

Listening to her just brings up all those fears that I have about losing the weight and keeping it off.

I am following the all the rules. I wait 30 minutes before or after a meal to drink. I get 60g+ protein on most days(still trying to get it all in on my 12 hour shifts), protein first always. I drink around 50 oz of water on average. I am also finally on target with my vits and meds. I do yoga 4 days a week, try to do pilates 2 days a week and walk my dog 5 days a week atleast a mile sometimes 2.

Big hugs to all of you!

Love you Roz for  the lil peanut comparison!
