Almost nothing bothers my tummy... anyone else have this "problem"

Kat,

I too have the VSG and I think that we are less prone to having "intolerances" of food.  For one because we don't dump (normally).  Maybe also because we have a fully functioning pylorus?

In any event you are really in a very early stage to be testing the waters and as Jody said, you stomach is not healed yet, so the nerves are not functioning to a point where you would feel full.  Be sure to measure everything to be sure that you are not hurting your tiny tummy.

Not even raw onion bothers me, the more raw onion the better.  Please don't test yourself too early out!

Thanks, y'all.  I see what you mean about the nerves not being healed... hadn't thought of that.  Honestly, the only contraband I've really had is the tortilla.  I don't count the lemon or the vinegar as they don't have carbs but probably too much acid.  I had sushi for lunch today.   Drank Isopure for breakfast and have had some cottage cheese with roasted red peppers for a light snack.

Y'all are helping me be accountable and I do so appreciate it.

I have the same problems and have since WLS! To make matters worse, I am an "RNYer" supposedly we are more sensitive...Yeah right...Not!

I never dump, nothing bothers my pouch and as Kathy said, if I *wanted to* (Not that I want to, but if I wasn't careful) I could eat like a bottomless pit!  I have had tastes of high fat, high carb, ultra high sugar, nothing bothers my system.

At two months out I was eating every red meat under the sun (Beef, lamb, pork, goat, venison). And still do. Eggs, milk, dairy... Like MC Hammer said... "Can't touch this!".

What it means is, I gotta work TWICE as hard as other WLS and "non-op" people because I am always hungry and have no sense of "full" or dumping.

Yes, I do...I work my tushy off in measuring everything. I am good and get in around 90 grams of Protein a day. I avoid all refined and regular sugar and try and stick to Stevia and Splenda. I avoid all refined carbs.

Once in awhile I DO have several bites of a dessert or share some gelato or something with the husband. But only maybe once every week or two.

I gotta exercise my butt of (gym and walking) and I gotta force myself to stop eating. As an example...Tonight for dinner we had smoked/grilled chicken I had a thigh and leg piece (a pretty big one, around 6-7 oz without the bone). I took off all skin and ate maybe 4-5 oz even though I could have eaten more. I had some green beans (around 2.5 oz) and for dessert I had 2 oz of sugar free pears.  I still was hungry. :(

It's like that daily. I get all my vites and supplements. I have done well on the weight loss, and thankfully have had no complications so far. But yeah....I got "Iron Guts" too...I would have ratehr been a "dumper". and I do not delude myself and know I will have a VERY hard journey because I can eat anything...I will have to work hard to NOT get back into the old mindset.

Kathy, we can be buds anytime you want and support each other (or ANY of us who have "Iron Guts")
Warmly,
Jackie

Thanks, everyone.  I have really done much better today after my "confession."  I do feel full much of the time and for that I am grateful.  And I have stayed totally away from refined sugar and don't crave it at all.  So, with a little belt tightening (literally and figuratively) I WILL get through this.  Not gonna let some folks have the satisfaction of seeing me fail.... (not talking about ANY of you..I know you are all in my corner.)

Thanks again.

Wait until you are on regular food. I bet you get restriction then!

I can eat pretty much anything with my VSG if I'm careful about chewing it and stop when I'm done. But I find I don't really want to. Now that the ghrelin is gone, I don't have a voice in my head driving me to eat, eat, eat and so it's pretty easy to eat healthy foods. I was fairly strict early out and over time I lost my taste for a lot of the junk I used to eat. I don't miss it at all.

Ok dear little Kitty ...i have to ask U this .... why oh why just a DAY or two after Ur lifesaving surgery are U even TRYING foods that could rupture Ur staple line .... cause U SERIOUSLY DEATH or cripple U ...

that are NOT on Ur food plan ...

this is NOT A JOKE!!!!

if U dump now U could need another surgery and have complications forever - this is why people end up with complications quiet as its kept ... becausethey are not compliant

Ure supposed to be eating purees and thats it ... right ?! and shakes?

As far as dumping goes i had a cast iron stomach pre wls and i could have been a competitive eater quantity wise . Post ...NOT . Please explore OA .. sounds like compulsive overeating issues may be bedeviling U ...

BTW - Ure talking to the queen of the hardheads here - i wrote the book on coming out of surgery and taking a bite of this and a bite o f that .... so I know what im talking about .

I did it until two weeks post I took some bites of an orange and had to be re hosiptalized for five days because it got stuck. Im darn lucky i didnt have to get cut open because of my own stupidity .

I look back on that now and im apalled at my own behavior but honestly ..i was an addict ... i was addicted to overeating food . But nevertheless i was risking my life , DEFINITELY stretching out my stoma ( which im paying for every single day now ) .... and generally acting STOOPID . When i realized it i took my butt to OA !! it helped a lot , chat here did too....

love U bunches and wishing U the best big hugs Ava

Thanks, honeybunch.  I feel much better today.  Only had a little lemon in lots of water and just about an ounce of vinegar.  It is not the foods that are getting me... have had NO refined sugars and the tortilla has been the only bad carb.  It is just the CRAVING for sour, bitter stuff (which I have had since a small child).  Probably need to re-visit the psych doctor or find a REAL nutritionist who can explain this physical craving for bitter to me.

Thanks for the hugs!
