Flu shot

I had an appt with my PCP this afternoon. He was very pleased with my weight loss.  He's sending me for bloodwork to get my thyroid levels checked.  He also ordered a ton of other blood work.  Then he suggested I get a flu shot.  I have never gotten a flu shot up to this point, and he never suggested I get one either.   He seemed to think it was important now.  Is it because of the weight loss?   Are we at higher risk now that we are thinner?  Cindy

I don't know?  Maybe he thinks your immune system would be down, but I don't know why.  I've gotten the flu shot for the last several years and plan on getting one next week.

I always thought it was for children, people older than 50, pregnant people, and people who worked in the health field.  Im 42....turning 43 this month and dont meet any of the other criteria.  Perhaps he thought I looked so ragged, I looked to be a senior citizen       Cindy

Not any more. My medical group just changed the guidelines to recommend them for everyone instead of just people who met certain criteria.

Maybe your doc/medical grup just changed the guidelines too.

I've always gotten one, in health care and husband is on oxygen.  But my PCP said I really needed to get one this year after the surgery.  Compromised immune system she said.

I've gotten the flu shot every year for the last 5-6 years and don't have any adverse affects other than a sore arm for a day.  I just decided that having the flu is so awful, and if there's a way to avoid it, I should do so.

I have a compromised immune system and some other health problems so I'm always in the first flood of flu shots if there is a shortage.  I work in a big office and just routinely get them these days.  But then again, I'm in the over 50 catalogue.  I think I may be hitting middle age!  I plan to get my flu shot when I get my BP checked and my thyroid bloodwork drawn on the 29th.  I need to get in for a mamogram as well.   So many things to do, so little time!

I've gotten one every year since they made it mandatory for military. Getting mine this Thursday. Keep your D up along with your other vitamins & minerals and you have as good a chance as anyone.
