Thanks I'm stubborn, and fortunate enough to have spoken to the right people through my grievances.
What's really cool is that I only got referred by my PCP last month. I was literally on a WAITING LIST just to GET an appointment for orientation! Ridiculous. I called the orientation and options classes an "unnecessary delay in my medically necessary treatment". Sometimes it's how you say things that matters. Like with my two who are Asperger's. The key words are "free and appropriate education" this is the language used by federal law, so they are just more likely to listen to you. LOL
Or again it might be that I'm simply a stubborn beeyotch.

Welcome! I think all of us "lightweights" have heard the "you don't need surgery" comments! Don't let them stop you though....it's an amazing, worthwhile, journey that will change your life!
Kudos to the 7 children....I can barely raise my ONE!!! You are a special person indeed!
I teach second grade and have taught many Aspergers children! What incredible people they are....every year I get a student with Aspergers I think I'm prepared because of the previous ones and boy am I wrong. The syndrome presents itself in so many different ways. They are truly some of my favorite kids....unfortunately the general population is very ignorant about autism. I have had to fight to keep these kids in my general ed. classroom at times.
Anyway, off my Autism soapbox,
WELCOME and BEST WISHES!!!!

Mine presents mostly in that my natural tendency is to be a literalist. I had to "learn" subtle communications. I also have too much empathy which leads to me having not enough sympathy sometimes. I'm nicer globally, and I have high expectations of behavior, but more pragmatic personally. Does that makes sense? Oh, and I'd rather read than do anything else. As a kid I read through the military base library. :) My children were much the same. Breaks my heart when one comes home and asks why the kids aren't nicer. It just doesn't occur to them to be mean on purpose. Although we are often "mean" (Say things others wouldn't, have no problem being adament about what we want, etc.) if we believe it's for good reason, my Asperger's presents as an inability to be unkind for no reason. So I won't be mean to you to get you to go away and leave me alone. I'll simply tell you to go away and leave me alone. LOL
Which is probably why I got my DS. I'm ridiculously stubborn and rational sometimes. :) Conversely I'm a relativist. I can see the other side even when I am in 100% disagreement. (That empathy thing again.)
It gives me that right balance of "I understand, now get over it, kid." That is absolutely necessary for effective parenting and substitute teaching.
