I hope you feel better once you get your numbers back in range.

This site is too funny! I was just getting onto OH to address a question about low thyroid (hypo), as I was just diagnosed with it due to all the blood tests I've had here recently! I am very ignorant on numbers and such although my gyn did tell me over the phone what those numbers were! I am starting out with 25mcg of synthroid (or generic) and we'll retest it at the end of the month...

Due to my low BMI, I wonder if my doc will suggest I try losing weight the "old fashioned way"? Me being paranoid, and not going to see her for a few more days, my mind conjures up all kinds of scenarios. I cannt believe how insecure I am lately!

How many of you all have a low thyroid? Do you think wls will help it get into a normal range again? I too am always tired...

Losing weight usually does not affect the thyroid levels.  Lin

weight loss and thyroid levels have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

25mcg is the lowest dose there is and I bet you will need a higher dose at some point. It is very common for us to need our levels increased and adjusted frequently postop, so make sure they check them every few months. ALso ask to have your T3 levels checked in addition to TSH and T4.

As far as always being so tired, that is because your thyroid is underactive. Once they get it going, you should feel more energy.  Did your doctor tell you what your TSH was? If not, you should ask for a copyof your labs.

5.65 is very high. Even 2.17 was too high for someone on treatment.  According to my Endocrinologist, once on treatment they strive to keep our levels around 1.0 or as close as possible for optimal functioning.  When my levels get into the 2's or 3;s, my Endo increases my dosage.

I do hope they have increased your Synthroid to get it down.  Not only are you dragging due to this high level, but it will affect your weight loss and can cause many other symptoms of hypothyroidism.

This better not way lay my surgery.......according to the "normal range" my stats before were fine. But now they are not. I have emailed my pcp and let her know about the test results...

The new range is .3-3.0 but once on treatment, you should be around 1.0 - based on your levels - you haven't been controlled since 2005.  Yes, they got better for a while but never totally theraputic and now they are way too high.  I would suggest you see an Endocrinologist, a specialist in thyroid disorders.  They will be able to treat you better and get you under control easier.

Well, weight loss sure has afftected my thyroid,

I'm was on 250 mcg of synthroid. 2 months ago my labs came back with a TSH of 7.48 it's no wonder I could not think straight!  My PCP threw her hands up and finally sent me to an Endo. She always switched me to 300 mcg which she was reluctant to do because she said that's getting into some "cancer numbers" as far as high dosing.  I always felt good at between a 2-3. So I decided to start taking meds before bed. That way I am not washing anything down and sending it through my body quicker than I should. My own experiment. Went to Endo and he said 300 was way too high for my weight and height. Labs came back with a TSH of 1.14 he called and dropped me to 250 mcg for now and I test in 6 weeks. Also having an ultrasound on the 21rst because he feels "nodules"...keep in mind I am missing have my thyroid due to a tumor and the rest has Hashimoto's. And I must admit I een feeling a bit jittery. But changing to taking my meds at night made a big difference I think.

Thank you for the information... no one has called me and said anything yet, so my guess will be that my pcp will do it after my surgery.
According to kaiser guidelines... I am just over the mark,, which is up to 5.00 but you can sure bet I will be asking Dr Rapp about it next week.
