First Post-Op Appt

I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon today.  He said I was doing well and am a "good healer".  All my surgical wounds look good.

I got the go ahead for soft foods.  Frankly, I"m a little nervous about the quantities and how food is going to settle in my pouch.  I've been looking forward to coming off clear liquids then I realize these soft foods have their own challenges.  Yikes!  I'm betting every stage is like that.

My weight crept up some prior to my surgery. I think it may have had something to do with that awesome trip to Jamaica my DH took me on the week before my pre-op diet.  My weight loss has been INCREDIBLE on clear liquids.  Down 25 pounds from my post-Jamaica high.

I'm expecting a stall as I start soft foods.  I may ignore my scale for a while since the first two weeks have been so good.  I don't want to add more stress.

I started exercising this week too.  20 minutes on my Wii Fit in the morning and a walk around the block in the evening.

I'm going to start back to work tomorrow too.  I feel strong and up to it.  My surgeon gave the ok.

All and all a good visit.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Keep up the good work! I am jealous...wish my hubby would take me to Jamaica! Good luck with going back to work. Pace yourself!
Best wishes to more success,
Danielle

Congratulations Kay.  It sounds like you are doing great since your surgery.
I was terrified when I went from pureed to soft foods.  I was so afraid of getting something stuck and throwing up.  It was fine though.  I have got food stuck and I survived and hopefully have learned to chew well and slow down.
Just be sure to take small bites and chew it to mush!!

Looks like you are progressing like a champ!  Soft foods was a TOUGH stage for me....I still had a ton of nausea and after one or two bites I was DONE!!!  It wasn't painful, just nauseating!

It was also a tough MENTAL stage....I really MISSED eating and eating was not FUN.  This all got better at about week 5-6.

My stall lasted from week 4 to week 7....yep a 3 week stall.  It ended with a bang though.....since then I've lost almost 10 pounds in week 8 and 9!  YEAH!  It's definitely a JOURNEY....but it's a GOOD one!!!

Glad to hear you had a great check up!
Just remember as you advance to weigh and measure. If you measure a 1/4 cup and your full after 2 tblsps, dont sweat it.
And remember chew, chew and chew! walk and sip.
Congrats on your success so far.

Do you have a NUT?  Did they give you foods that were approved for each phase?  They should also give you quantities.  Right now I'd think 1/4-1/2 cup is all you'll be able to do.  I measured my food religiously in the beginning,  Start with 1/4 cup.  I'm sure it will fill you up.  Remember also, as your pouch heals you may not have the feeling of "fullness".  That's what's so important about measuring at this point of your journey.

Congrats on the awesome weight loss so far!  Sounds like you're doing great!

My best advice during this phase is to eat slooooooow. Like slower than you ever thought possible. It's hard to realize when you are full and one bite too many can cause so much pain. It gets easier and easier all the time.

This is exciting to read and very encouraging, Girl!
Congratulations on doing so very well =)

Getting a Wii Fit sounds like a good investment.
Perhaps I'll get one for Christmas (note to Santa...).

Keep it up!

Congrats!  I am back at work today for 1/2 day.  Soft foods are going fine but I am really hungry today.  Staving it off with SF Jello and Isopure.  But I'm happy to realize that 12 days ago I was 10 pounds heavier so that is a BIG consolation.
