Yes, I am very happy about that and the promise of feeling better!  I just noticed, we've both lost about the same amount and have the same amount to go!

Thank you for being so open about hunger. That is my big fear. I live with what people on the board seem to call "head hunger". I am counting on surgery taking that away by not allowing me to eat all I want (notice I didn't say all I need). I hope the surgery makes it impossible for me to eat too much, at least for a year or so. I'm planning to use the time to develop good habits.

Your honesty is helpful. I can't imagine making it on 800 cal/day, but if I could do that on my own I wouldn't weigh close to 220.

You serve all of us with your sharing.

 Wendy,

The sad news is that they operate on our stomach, not on our minds.  So devious thoughts about food can still exist post-op.  That's where good books about dealing with head hunger are helpful.  Some people seek professional help if they feel they need it and other come here to OH and talk about what's going on as they work through it.

Food issues that we have pre-op don't just magically disappear, but you're right, being able to eat so little is very helpful in the "mental" recovery process.   We need to use those precious months post-op to really learn great habits.  From what I've heard from RNY patients, many don't have the hunger return for a very long time.

I think it's a lot about replacing all that "food time" that we used to have in planning, buying, eating food etc, into something else.   I'm trying to develop exercise as my something else that I pour energy into.

You're going to do just fine Wendy!  :)

I've been knitting and making button bracelets like crazy. My friends will get the same gifts this year. In response about children getting sick from weight, I know that is true. I also think the quality of food these days is terrible. I got fat on home cooked, not processed food, just too much of it. Now I look at grocery carts and no wonder kids get fat. Nothing looks like real food.

See, I have a soap box, too...........Hope that's okay?

So my two cents is that you are working out two hours a day and not eating carbs so your body is starving itself...you need to give your body some good carbs before you work out...so your body calms down and  goes back to burning fat like it's supposed to instead of freaking out and
stalling and holding on and eating muscle instead...just have a half a banana in your protein shake or some berries..BEFORE you work out and you will feel much better and lose weight...if you eat absolutely no carbs and work out for two hours your body will stall and you will feel starving...
you are starving because you are starving...once you reach a normal BMI which you have you should start eating some good carbs...not a lot.... I only have some fruit in my shake before I work out and it works great...also you need to give yourself some rest days from you work out...if you work out every day your body will not rest and it needs it....you will lose more in the long run after a day or two of rest...your workouts will be more intense  and you'll feel better.....Cirangle told me to eat as much protein as I wanted if I was hungry.....and I am allowed to eat minimal fruit .....so there you have it...my two cents...SEAVIEW

Seaview,  I appreciate your two cents.  We don't see you around here enough these days.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I upped my protein a lot today and will continue to do so and see what happens.  I'm eating some carbs, just not a lot right now.

Of course it's ok!!  Did you happen to see the television show that Jamie Oliver did last spring/summer about the food in the school cafeteria in West Virginia?  It was a great show.

Saw the whole thing. It really was inspiring. I hope they do some kind of followup. I also read and learned from Michael Pollan's books, Botany of Desire, The Omnivore's Dilemma, etc. He is more about the environment and organics, but he has a feel for how complicated food has become in our world.

I want to wish you Happy Birthday, as you start the week countdown to the 6th.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Wendy!

I haven't read Pollan's book yet.  I have been vegetarian or vegan for most of my adult life.  I've heard him interviewed and think he's a smart man.

I hope Jamie Oliver does follow-up too.  I used to live in West Virginia so the serie**** home for me.
