Is it all in my head?

I am almost 5 weeks out and have lost 40 pounds including the pre-op diet. Some people have noticed and at times I look at my legs or stomach and I notice but last night I REALLY looked at myself in the mirror and I look FAT. I dont see where I have lost ANY weight!! Will it take me lossing more to see it for myself? Am I crazy? I figured 40 pounds is enough to tell a differance sense I was 230 starting this...

I don't remember exactly when I started seeing it but one day you'll catch your reflection in a window and you'll do a double, or triple take, and grin all over! Thinking now it probably wasn't until I was approaching a normal BMI. I hit a normal BMI at 6 months post-op and lost a little more in the 5 months after that.

I have a tendency to look at my problem areas and think it hasn't changed at all.  Its so hard to tell for ourselves when we look in the mirror.  I bet if someone took a picture of you and you compared your pre-op to current you could tell.

I took monthly progress pictures on my monthly anniversary, as well as took my measurements.  I kept them on a spreadsheet so I could see my progress - and that definitely helped when I got frustrated.  I'd go back and see my progress thus far and know its working!

And what Gina said about the window reflection - yep - it will happen!  That's such an awesome moment when it does!

I've lost 35lbs and can tell it in my face and boobs.  I could take pleats in my bra cups so I have already bought a new bra, only one, wash and wear.  I get my measurements done at Curves at the first of the month, so tomorrow.  That really enforces that I am losing everywhere.

GRRLs PLeeease make sure U buy new well fiitting supportive bras in a timely fashion !! its SOO worth its so the girls dont end up stretched out and looking like tube sox ......

the litle tender fragile skin is ALL that supports em !!

its taken me a YEAR literally to own my new weight .. its REALLY strange isnt it .... im just finally feeling safe enough in my new sizing to clean my closets out of mys size eights and sixes lol ....

and STILL i pick things up and say thats going o be WAY too small and put them on and they either FIT or maddeningly are TOO LARGE ...... and i never even got to wear em on the way down !! grrrrr

Um, Ava...

If you have a bunch of 8s and 6s you're getting ready to clean out of your closet...

May I have them?  ;)

I need clothes.  I'll be done with the 10s in a few days.  (How many days, not sure.  But it's days rather than several weeks, I believe...)

AND, after the 10s, I will have no more clothes.  :(  And clothes matter to me!

I totally agree!  Get the girls up where they belong, gravity will work more slowly on you, from my experience, anyway.  I have lost many sizes but always wore a good supportive underwire bra at my heaviest and again now.  They aren't very big anymore (dh refers to them lovingly as "those little things"), but they don't have much sag either.  In support (pun intended) of well fitting support bras!

Im down 112 lbs and I STILL dont see it in the mirror.  I see the difference in pictures, but not the mirror.  This journey really messes with your head.  Good luck!  Cindy

Sorry to break it to you...but everyone is different.  And it IS all in your head!!

I'm over 2 yrs out and I still don't see the full picture!!  I don't remember when I started to see it.  I tried to stay in clothes that fit me.  I hate to see people when they wear clothes too big or too small!!  I try to explain to the girls I work with, how I perceive myself.  They laugh and shake their head.  I tried to tell the that I don't think of myself as having blond hair (of course its dyed blond), I think its lighter brown!!    They started asking our customers what color hair I had, they made a face (like duh), then said blond!!  I also told the one girl that I thought my thighs were he same size as hers (she is normal weight).  She said "NO THEY ARE NOT, you got skinny ass legs!".  So we sat down and measured our thighs.......mine are about 3 inches smaller than hers (Oops)!!  It took me just over a year to start picking up clothes that fit me at the store.  I was still looking in the bigger sizes.

I noticed it the most in my clothing size.  When my sizes were going down, I was getting amazed!! I couldn't believe those sizes fit me!!  I didn't see it, but it felt Oh so good!!

There are never any problems, only solutions.  quoted by a dear and special friend!!!
