I knew it was inevitable.....

The depression ha**** and hit hard. I normally have my husband to help bring me through this but with him away all I can do is sit here and do nothing.
Before anyone asks, I stopped taking my meds before surgery because it made me super drowsy and I knew he would be away again, I have to be awake for the 4 brats that I call my children.
I do not know if it is the over cast skies or the rain but it really has been hard to get any motivation.
I love my walks and this had been keeping everything away but it does not seem to work right now. I am going to see if my doc can put me back on some meds ( not what I take) and see if I can get my head on straight again. I hate this feeling so much. Anyway no need to reply just wanted to get it off my chest. I write in my journal too so maybe time for an entry.

Sorry you are going through this when you journey has been going so well.  I have never taken any psy. meds in my life so when my surgeon suggested an antidepressant for the journey, I was shocked.  But due to the hormone changes, I decided to take it and have been glad I did.  I know there is stuff they can help you with.  Good luck.
Oh, also, I take mine at night instead of in the morning.  Then it doesn't matter if it makes me drowsey.

Hi Stacey :)

I know where you are coming from. I deal with depression and SAD so I really dread the arrival of Fall and Winter somewhat. Please keep trying meds until you find one that works well for you without the side effects. I had to try at least 6 before I found one that works for me.

I also bought a full spectrum cfl off Amazon that mimics sunlight. I have it in the floorlamp above where I use my laptop. It seems to be helping alot with my energy levels.

I was taking a med that made me drowsy and I took it at night and that helped. With your hormones being out of whack and the seasons changing, this is the worse time possible for you to be off your meds so be strong and do what you have to do to get back on track. It will get better!!

Take care,

Char

I'm so sorry, Stacey.  Do you also have access to therapy?  Joining that with the meds would be worth it.  What you're experiencing sounds just right - hubby away, kids to care for, RAGING HORMONES, ENORMOUS LIFE CHANGE - it's even more than usual.

There's no shame in doing all you need to do to be well.  In fact, there's great honor in it.

Here's to getting better...

I'm sorry, Stacey.  I know exactly how you feel.  This time of year is especially tough for me too.  I suffer from depression, and SAD as well. Sometimes there just isn't anything that will make me feel better.  Try to find a way to keep yourself busy- if you can, I know it's hard to even get off the couch on days like this, but try to force yourself to.  Kids don't make it any easier sometimes, but other times, you just look at those little smiling faces, ask for a hug, and it gets a little better.

Definitely call your doc today, don't wait, and get back on something right away.  It will take some time for new meds to work, but just hang in there, I know it's hard.  Maybe increase your vitamin D too, if you haven't already done so.

Just remember, we are all here for you, and post, write on your blog, talk it out, do what ever you need to get through.

Like Char I too deal with SAD at this time of the year.  When I had my 1 yr labs drawn my Vit D was EXTREMELY LOW!  My surgeon started me on 2000 IU of Vit D.  I'm telling you this......I swear by that stuff!  It is impossible for me to get enough Vit D without taking a large amount supplimentaly simply because of where I live.  I could sit outside and soak in every minute of sunlight at the peak of summer and still not get enough Vit D.  The amount of energy and overall feelling of wellness you get is immediate!  My mother has been telling me to start taking more and I just never got around to it. When Dr. Jeff told me to do it of course I started that day.......I feel SO MUCH BETTER.  Maybe you should try the same.......it may give you a better feeling in general.....w/o the psych meds.......good luck!  I know you'll find your happy place.......

Sorry to hear you're going thru a rough time Stacey.  I suffered from depression about 15 yrs ago.  It sucked!  I was worried to death it would come back after my WLS.  So far, so good though.  Do you have access to a therapist you could talk to?   Cindy

Thank you everyone, you all are just the best.
I believe I suffer from SAD but have never been diagnosed with it, I do have access to a psych doc but because we are military, I have to jump through hoops to get an appt, could be a month away. I want to go back on welbutrin because I never had any side effects with it so it is a matter of getting an appt for it.
As far as vit D goes, when I had my lab work done, I was extremely deficient. I now take 50,000 once a week to assist it.
This is something I have dealt with my entire life and know I cant come off my meds, I just couldnt stand being so sleepy. I even took them at night and could not get up the next morning, it was that bad. I quit them before surgery and I was fine until now. I will call my PCM and see if I can get a prescription, but my question is what am I allowed to take almost 4 weeks out?

That's a question for your care team......time release meds are out at this point......you'll need to discuss it with your PCM and pharmacist to make sure you are taking the proper type of med as well as dose.  You may even want to get your surgeon involved if the rest of your care team is unfamiliar with the changes made from your WLS and how certain meds are no longer an option for you.  Have you considered taking 2000 IU of Vit D daily instead?  I don't know if you get the same outcome from a once weekly dose as you would from a daily dose since it will also help with your calcium absorption......just a thought.....Good luck hun!
