Can't Keep Anything Down
I had my surgery 6 months ago today (3/29/10) and have lost 70 lbs since then. Twenty-five of these pounds hve been in the last 6 weeks because I can't eat. I am NEVER hungry and when I eat, (which I make myself do)what goes down must come up - even drinks. if I take medicine (which I do) I don't know if I have lost tht or not, but I can't take double pills,.When I go to the center they say drink liquids for 2 days after you have thrown up, however, since I throw up every day when does this occur. I only have between 1-1/2 and 2 cc's in the band. I feel like the food is sitting between my throat and my breast bone. At the center the doctor has about as much time for a patient as a rattlesnake, and you have the nurse who tells you everything will be fine and the nutritionist who says drink 64 ounces a day and your protein shakes -- how do I do that if it won't stay down. Has anyone else gone through anything like this, as right now I feel like I am on a medical anorexia program----I feel terrible. Last night I was up all night sick, so I didn't sleep and my food intake yesterday consisted of one egg. I am afraid I am going to start losing my hair. Please give me some hope or help. I like the weight loss but mayve I should have learned more about weigh****chers as I feel so bad.........and kind of sorry I ever had this thing if this what I have to look forward to.
Hi Maire,
I'm so sorry to read that you're having so many problems. Have you checked out lapbandtalk.com to talk to others with the Band, or visited the OH Lapband forum? Being a Sleever, I don't know a lot about the band, but I do have friends over at lapbandtalk. When they talk about experiencing things the way you're feeling, it's generally because they need to get an unfill. Is there a way to get a second opinion if your doctor won't pay attention to you? It's really important to get in fluids and vitamins.
Go back to that doctor and demand that they take your situation seriously. Take someone with you that can be your advocate. I wouldn't leave until they do something to help you.
Please let us know how you're doing.

Marie,
I don't have the band either, but from what I've read that is not normal. Can you go to another doctor as others have suggested? If not, I would make an appointment with your doctor and not leave until he had satisfied me. If you are not getting fluids to stay down you will become dehydrated very quickly. Please call them today - if they don't want to do anything else, maybe you can insisit that they take all the fluid out of your band and see if that helps you. If that doesn't help maybe he needs to do the scope to look at everything and see if your band may have slipped or something.
Good luck and keep us updated.

I have had two lapband surgeries (long story) and what you are describing is not normal and not okay. You should be able to keep fluids down even after having an episode of getting stuck. The problem is you are at a high risk for dehydration. It's quite possible that you band has slipped even at just 6 months out. You need to have a scope done asap!!!! If your doctor won't do anything about it I strongly encourage you to go to the ER. Your health is far to important to hope that this will pass!!
I have had a lot of issues with my band. They began early on. I ignored the issues at first thinking it was normal stuff that happened with the band. Unfortunately my first band slipped and resulted in surgery for a second band. I am now having issues with this band and have a revision over to a bypass scheduled for Nov. 3. I am not saying that the band doesn't work because if you go on the band forum you will read about a lot of successes.
I am sorry you have been so sick and I understand your frustration. This issue may be nothing or something really small but if it's not taken care of could result in you becoming more sick. I will be thinking of you and I wish you the very best!!
