Time to face the music with my doc today
So I saw the nutritionist and nurse today. I almost didn't go because I didn't want to face them and admit that I have not been taking my vitamins or keeping up with my protein. I did not think that anything they had to say would make any difference to me, so what was the point. But as it turned out, I WAS interested in what they had to say. For some reason things really clicked between the nutritionist and me today. In my past two visits I always felt like I wasn't hearing what she was saying. Like in the old Charlie Brown TV specials.... I can relate to what the characters hear when the adults talk. That's how I processed what the nutritionist said..."wah, wah, wah, wah". I'm not kidding. But this time I listened and she said just what I needed to hear. yay.
Then instead of seeing the regular nurse today, I saw the office manager, who is a retired nurse and the wife of one of the surgeons. I always liked her as a person, but she normally does not see patients. She was just filling in today. She was really terrific. She said all the right things. I asked her for the name of a therapist I could talk to about addictions, because I am concerned that whatever was causing me to eat before, is still just under the surface, ready to bring me under if not now.... then later, once the honeymoon is over. She knew just the right doctor. :)
I asked her if I could continue to see her for my office visits because I can tell I will feel more accountable to her. She was flattered and agreed! Yay again! She also ordered a blood workup for me and offered to go over the results with me when they come in. She said I can come in as frequently as I want to if it would be helpful. :)
And on top of these successful meetings, it turns out I have actually lost 61 lbs - not 55. So I have A LOT to be thankful for today, including you guys here on this forum. I was telling Judy (the OM/nurse) about how terrific you all are! I think these past 4 months since my surgery I have been in a fog of a lot of "Wah wah wah wah"... and now it's finally the right people talking. So thank you all for being here.

I'm glad you had a good office visit today and I'm really glad you went, whether you wanted to or not. I think 55 pounds is great. I think it took me 6 or 7 months to do that.
I saw my surgeon at 2 weeks post-op, then three months and six months. I won't see him again until 12 months. I really enjoy seeing him because he challenges me. ;)

I am glad that you had a good visit and just remember, we are lightweights - we dont lose the large numbers that everyone on the RNY, main and DS board do. 55 and even 61 pounds is great for 6 months - that is an average of 10 pounds per month. My surgeon told me approx 20 pounds the first month, then 8-10 pounds for months 2-6, and the 4-5 per month for 7-12 - totally 88-100 pounds in a year. It took me 14 months to lose 100pounds.
I am glad that you clicked with the nutritionist and office manager. I hope the nut got through to you on the importance of taking your vitamins. At the beginning I took the wrong calcium and multivitamin causing me many vitamin deficiencies early out plus I was already vitamin D and B12 deficient preop. So, needless to say I have to take a ton of stuff not but I am on top of things and I have amazing labs now. The harder you work at it early on the easier it gets but if you are lax at the beginning it makes it that much harder to catch up.
If you have any questions about what you should be taking, please PM me. Once you get your labs back - send me a copy and I can help you figure out where you are.
