Time to face the music with my doc today

I have my 2nd- ever post-op appt with my surgeon's office today. (I was out of town for my 3-month post-op visit.)  I already know that they are not pleased that I have lost only 55 lbs. since my surgery. I can't say I blame them. I have been taking too many liberties with food this summer and now it's time to buckle down again.  Roz's daily post will help me with that. So I'll go in and face the music, but I'm not looking forward to it.

By the way, is it normal for a surgeon to foist his patients off onto his staff and never see them again after surgery?  This is my surgeon's modus operandi.  I will only be seeing his nurse and the nutritionist. I guess that's managed care for ya. But in my case I had to pay for my own surgery!  Jeez, he could at least come in and say hello for sparing him the paperwork.

55 lbs is a lot of weight!  Look at your face. You look great.  Just show that NP and NUT what your new plan and attitude is about, and they will be pleased enough.

I haven't seen my surgeon since the surgery.  I support that, because I want him off operating on people, not doing follow-up care.  NPs are great for that.  Though, I do plan to track him down once I've met MY goal (now that I've met his goal) just to show him how great a job he did.  And to thank him.

Come to think of it, I'd LOVE to track down that adorable Resident who visited me in the hospital every day.  He was dreamy.  If only I could remember his name...D*mn that anesthesia!

I haven't decided yet. I'm looking into Hotels now.  I usually stay in the mid-town area. Wouldn't it be fun to get together?  I'm definitely in.  I've got a whole 5 days while my son is off rehearsing with nothing planned! My husband must be plotzing at the thought!  haha

Great! We arrive Sunday night and we'll stay with my husband's sister in Demerest Sunday. Then we'll come into the city on Monday and I'll be there through Sunday.  I'll have absolutely nothing to do Monday afternoon through Wednesday while Jonah is at rehearsals :D   Yippee.  Then the rest of my family trickles in on Wednesday afternoon.  Then the Parade is on Thursday morning.  I'm looking for a good restaurant for T-Day dinner.  Was thinking of Grammercy Tavern. Never been. Any thoughts?

Many surgeons stick to what they do best and that's surgery.  They leave the rest to their staff.  I hope that you at least have someone helping you with what labs to get drawn etc through your surgeons office so that you can give it to your family doc if nothing else.  I have not seen mine since surgery either.

Good luck today!

I'm glad you guys are clearing that up for me. You're right. It would be a waste of their time and an unnecessary expense to the medical care dollar if surgeons visited with each patient post surgery.

I did call the nurse the other day and learned that they do not ask for labs at 3 months. Should I have them done on my own through my primary doc?  The nurse said not much will show up at this early stage so they wait until either the 6 month or 1 year.  I can't recall.  What do you think?

I apparently will not see my surgeon again either...I saw her 2wks post-op.  Next apt 6 mo. post-op and then yearly there after, but I will see her Nurse Practitioner...  And I have a PPO, not HMO.  I haven't met her yet so who knows maybe I'll like her even better!!!  (I hope so).

I wouldn't think 55 lb loss is too bad.  Is it a 6 month post-op?  Thats about an adv of about 9 lbs a month.  Maybe you didn't set any records but still good I think.
I am almost 5 months out and have lost 65 lbs, and could be doing better myself in the eats dept, but have been happy with my loss.
