Anyone know the Lightweights' Creed?

This board is so interesting.  I'm curious to know how it got started and who decided it should have a creed.  (I'd love to know what that creed is too, please.)  And this morning I learned what it means when you all say "throwing critters or lizards (?) your way..." .  How did everything get so amicable and civilized here?  And why do so many OH RNY people from the regular forum stay off of this one?

And finally, is there anyone from the Minneapolis area on this board?  I could use a local buddy.

Thank you!

Ahhh...you've been reading! lol

There were a bunch of us LWs that were quite active here a couple of years back and we were very aware of the surgery wars and otherwise general trolling going on on the other boards. We wanted to figure out what our strategy would be if we started getting attacked and how other LWs would respond. The LW Creed grew out of that concern. I brought out the Army Soldiers' Creed and "PlicketyCat" wrote our creed based on the discussion here about what we wanted the LW board to be and represent. We also wanted to make it an open board for all surgeries and BMIs. We edited the creed with Plickety and voted on the final version that I post ever couple of weeks. Although anyone can repost it and I hope people will copy it and past as a new post every now and then.

We had all kinds of fun giving the board a mascot and naming the mascot. All kinds of craziness. LWs swing lizards for good luck and letting folks know prayers are going up. They swing chickens on the DS board and I told someone I was swinging chickens for them. "Susiewong" loved it but was out of chicken, so she decided she'd swing the lizards on her patio wall instead.. Well, it stuck! lol

We have a lizard mascot named Less Newton. Newtons are a measure of gravity, named after Sir Isaac Newton. Are you still reading? lol  LWs pull less Newtons...

Here's Less Newton.

Now, in order to become a full fledged LW, in your best Jeff Foxworthy voice, complete the following sentence. "If you've every <<_________>>, you might be a lightweight."

This is sooo cool to read!  I love hearing this history - it helps to hear the context.

I also enjoyed reading it because I could picture you smiling when you wrote it, Gina!  That's a happy thought.

Hahaha!  Fortunately, I have not encountered too many trolls while trolling the other boards.... at least they don't bother me too often. (although I do not like it if I see that someone vulnerable is being hurt by snide comments or bad advice.)

I'm glad swinging lizards "stuck".... we wouldn't want them sliding down the patio door walls, having missed their target! ...  And the name Less Newton is a hoot!

If the Jeff Foxworthy fill-in-the-blank is a test of my worthiness to be on this board, I'm going to have to give it some thought!

And one final thought.... I kinda feel like an Amazon woman compared to all of you LW's.  At 5'9" my BMI was nowhere near 30 - 40!

No problem about the BMI. If you like it here and you want to contribute, welcome! I don't think Plickety considered herself a 30-40ish BMIr either. Look how much she contributed.

Here's my Jeff Foxworthy:  If you've ever been a pre-op in a support group and they all wanted to know when you had your surgery and how much you lost, you might be a light weight.

Wow again!  I looked up Plickety Cat...It's so funny that you call her Plickety rather than her name. The board must have been a fun place to hang out in those years!  Boy, you weren't kidding when you mentioned her contribution to this forum!  She certainly wasn't vain or inhibited...you must have gotten so much from her raw honesty and willingness to share.  Plickety reminds me of the names T.S. Eliot used for the characters in Cat's.  Macavity cat, Mister Mistofolees, Angelical cats.....  Plickety would fit right in!  How is she doing up in Alaska?

They're building their cabin this year. I think they're trying not to have another winter in a tent. lol  Here's a link to her blog about all that's going on off-grid in AK. http://www.jenninewardle.com/
