I've had broken bones, plantar fascitis and a crushed tibial plateau fracture in the past but I would LOVE to accomplish a 5K after my surgery.  Could you send me the link?  Thanks, Janet

 Hi Janet,

I went to iTunes podcasts and downloaded Podcasts for Runners  - Couch 2 5K.   Once you're cleared for that sort of physical activity post-op,  I'll send you the info again.  :)

I used that! It's a great program ... the only program that ever got me running, in fact. (I'd tried before and at a lower weight than when I started Couch to 5K.)

I highly recommend it. Just take your time and go through it at your own pace. It took me 12 weeks.

Thanks Marie,  You're my fitness guru!  I don't care how long it takes me.  For me it's about having something to challenge myself with and work towards.

I was thinking that maybe it's time for me to start sticking my head into the Exercise Forum and see what all of you are up to.  :)

ive posted many times on this subject and dont want to be repetitive and tiresome .... but i dont want anyone to miss crucial information  I had to learn the HARD way either lol ....

I was a fat person who ran... a LOT

i got overuse injuries until i got the right  things on my feet  which are

MENS  top of the line ( gel or air  cushioned fore AND  aft  both ) running shoes .  Nike makes great ones , so does new balance if you have wide feet and asics isnt bad either  and readily available in sports authority , modells etc.

THE IMPORTANT THING IS  YOU NEED A TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR SNEAKER !!! sale sneakers are fine - last years style doesnt matter  - but it has to be a top of the line RUNNING shoe and should be as LIGHT as possible .

Expect to pay On sale 165 - 180 bux fora decent pair .  Sorry but Ure worth it .   And  count Ur running  miles . After 400 miles U NEED a brand new pair .  U can Use these for walking but not for running any more because  the cushioning is compromised .

Mens sneakers are a great way to get more cushioning for Ur buck cuz they are designed to cushion the impact of a 165 - 180 lb customer  whereas womens are only designed to cushion a 125 lbs Barbie .  Which most women ( not just here on OH ) are NOT .  Frankly , the industry double standards are way out of date  because people are MUCH bigger ( and heavier now ) but the mens works ok for most women still .  If Ure heavier  than 185 lbs and plan to run regularly ... U should probably get New Balance running shoes  and be CAREFUL.

Also - invest in several  good running BRAS That hold the girls firmly as ROCKS .  AS U lose buy smaller ones .  Once that chest skin stretches out  that holds the boobs ( and thats  ALL that keeps them perky )   its virtually impossible to put humpty dumpty together again without thousands of dollars and a scalpel .

Whereas if U protect Ur precious boobies .. they often do firm up ( and i can teach U some downward pec flyes that build a little shelf  for them to sit on and look even perkier )   Some of us larger busted grrls  wear two running bras on top of each other -  or a singlet with a built in bra over another bra .   Thats what i do , and my ( 100 % natural  lol)  boobs are NICE .

Whenever i see a woman jogging ( every day )  practically getting punched out by her own knockers with every step  I just mouth to her ...... get a BRA !!!   The problem is .... Ure stressing the skin and really doing permanent damage when they bounce  like that .

Good luck Lee !!  U go GRRL !!!!

Hi Ava,  Thanks for the great advice.   My orthopedic surgeon wants me wearing Brooks Ariel's and that's it.  No other shoe for me due to major surgery on my ankle.  I was actually wearing them years before he recommended because they have a wide base that supported my 249 pounds.  I got fit by The SportsBasement in San Francisco years ago and they told me that once I tried them, I'd never go back to any other brand.   I'm sold....

Now about those bras, you're right.  I need something firmer if I'm going to jog.  :)

Cool!  shoulda known Ud have that covered  smart Ms Lee lol!!

I always worry about people here  when i hear  folks talk about  running because i know I myself  was an athlete for so many years and had no CLUE about  shoes and cushioning and overuse injuries .

Only when running ten miles in the same shoes  day after day  for years  led to my stepping on my right  knee( to go down into the subway)and it literally giving out under me ( and the other one doing the same thing a few days later ) did i realize  i was in HUGE trouble ....

i was SOO  lucky they healed then ....and so scared because there's nothing as debilitating as not being able to WALK .....
