Gallbladder probs- so soon?

I'm 3 months post-op. Down just over 50% of my excess weight. Over the last week or so I have begun to have pain in my back, just under my ribs on the right. Today it started to radiate to my Right scapula/shoulder. I have come to the conclusion it is probably my gall bladder acting up. It's not at all like my GeRD pain.
As I'm a lightweight, I wrongly assumed that this would not happen to me.
Those of you who developed gallbladder problems post WLS, when did it start? Please share time post-op, and percent EWL??

Not going to be much of a help to you... sorry, but am also interested in posts from others who know.

I am pre WLS (Oct. 25) and just had an ultrasound last eek of my glaabladder and it came back as "no stones". Because I am experiencing "something" in my upper area, nears my diaphram and to the right , my pcp ordered for me a hida scan (sp) to be done on Oct. 4th. This will hopefully give me full detail on whether or not I can KEEP my gb once my surgery date arrives.

I haven't discussed with my surgeon yet if he will remove it with my WLS IF it is bad? Sure hope so, as I am not keen on two surgeries if it can be done in one clean swoop?  Also, hate to be gross, but do you notice your poo being an "off" color/consistency?  I ask because this whole summer mine is loose and moss green!! Eewwww, and sorry to be so blunt...

HIDA Scan!  My all-time favorite test!  Yes, that was a bit sacastic, but when they finally got around to doing it, I finally got to the root cause of my pain.  Thus, it is my favorite test.   The hospital where I had the scan done did not make me drink that slimey milkshake-like concoction.  Everything was done via IV. Yay!!   I could see the screen and it was cool to watch the stuff pool into your liver and then move into the gall bladder.  When they simulated that fatty meal via IV, I nearly came up out of the machine.  That was when I knew it was really my gall bladder. My PCP was 110% sure but no one would listen to me because I had no gall stones.  One hospital ER told me I had a bladder infection.  Don't remember my bladder being up so high.   [sarcastic smirk on my face even thinking about that one]

Within 24 hours of its removal, I was feeling 1000% better.  I had no stones but the gall bladder was only emptying at 17% and considered diseased.  Normal would be 35%, if my memory serves me correctly.

My surgeon automatically removes the gall bladder if you still have it as a precaution but not every sureon will do that.  Let yours know how you feel.

Get it checked soon before you start having bad pain. A gallbladder can go bad for anyone who looses weight rapidly. Three months post-op is not unusual. They put me on a gall badder medication immediately post-op and I stayed on it for 6 months. No symptoms of a bad gallbladder yet {knocking on wood}.

Get checked out asap. Just to prevent any complications.
I, like Gina, am on actigall for 6 months postop to help prevent this from happening. It is very common for fresh postops especially in the first6 months with the rapid weight loss to experience gall bladder problems.
The doc told me with the limited calories and fat intake, the bile in the gall bladder get very thick and causes problems, thats why he orders the actigall to help support the bile function.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I had my gall bladder out when I lost 60 lbs on Weigh****chers, early 80's.  But I very well remember I had a back ache and it felt like I had a brick under my ribs on the right side.  Sorry you are going through this so soon after surgery.

I had to have mine removed only one month after RNY.  Yes i lost a lot fast but did not feel good at all!  At first they said no stones but I had sludge, by the time I had it removed at two weeks later, it was full of stones.

Hi, I am 6 months out and started having pain last month but it wasn't "typical".  It got worse last week and I had a sonogram and HIDA scan.  I see my doctor tomorrow but last week he said just based on my symptoms it was probably my gallbladder or a hernia and to count on surgery this week.  My pain was under my breasts across like pressure the first 2 times and last week I was doubled over in pain but was out of town and it was late at night.  I didn't want to end up at a different hospital and with a different doctor so I toughed it out.  My sonogram showed my gallbladder about 1/3 filled with stones and the HIDA scan showed my gallbladder functioning below normal.  I have lost 77#.
I would get it checked out, as you have probably learned by all these posts it is pretty common!
Good luck to you!
