French Quarter and All That Jazz!
Hi Lee,
I made it ***over*** here! :-) Actually part of my honeymoon MANY years ago was there... being my honeymoon AND that I was still a wild young thing (LOL) spent quite a bit of tme on Bourbon St! LOL I do remember a few things that were GREAT there... 1) LOVED cafe du monde but dont think I could walk in there and NOT have an beneigt (sp?) but of course WLS wasnt my focus at the time!!!! 2) This sounds morbid but it was sooooo COOL (maybe the hospice nurse in me is showing) but we went on a night time tour of the graveyards (above ground graves) it was really interesting! 3) I havent done this --- we did the carriage tours which were great --- but I had a friend do a bike tour of the gardens and LOVED it! My trip was YEARS before Katrina so I can't speak to what the situation is like now. I do have a good friend who I will actually be seeing tomorrow who lived there for years and still has family there so I will ask her what she recommends!
Oh! I got my date today :-) 10/20/10 AGGGGH and YAYYYYY LOL Amy

YAY Amy!! You found us! Welcome to the LW board.
I don't like organized tours. My son and I have hired private tour guides in places like Cambodia at Ankor Wat. Listened to her for a few hours, paid her and then did what we wanted. I kept the driver for a few days and mapped out what we wanted to do. The problem with tours is that they don't afford you the time/space to wander which for me is all the fun.
I'm planning on going to the cemetary, garden district (haven't been on a bike in close to 50 years but who knows!), Riverboat ride and then lots of walking, swimming and sampling good food.
I'm sure Zach will partake at Cafe Du Monde, which means I can have a little bite and walk away saying "I had all the best of NO". :)
YAY on your date of 10/20/2010. It's so darn close. Stay close to us here in the LW forum because you'll get lots of valuable information and love.

Lee,
The cemetery tour I went on was guided but was SO interesting. We walked from the Quarter down to the cemetery (and back of course) and part of it was pointing out a lot of historical buildings and great architecture. Be sure and look up the history of the Quadroon Ball before you go as the place where it was held annually was on the way to the cemetery. Fascinating stories.
This makes me want to go back!
I hope you have the time of your life.
