I am doing well at 17 days post-op.  I have slipped right through the 190s into the 180s where I haven't been in many many years.
I AM getting tried of liquids and will be happy to start pureed on Tuesday.  I'm hoping my energy level will improve with some real food.  Anyone with any ideas as to when your energy increased?
And purred??? any good ideas?? I will be going to Ky and working at the World Equestian Games during my time on pureed?  Any ideas on eating out, what to carry with me, etc.  I knbow I will have to take protein drinks for all days but what about meals?

Crongrats on making thru to pureed.  I am a little ahead of you and have been on pureed for a week now.  I have been having refried beans (fatfree) with a little cheese and yogurt on top which is savory flavor which I have missed a lot.  Also greek yogurt with dry hidden valley ranch mix blended in is great.  Cottage chese with chives is also good.

For travel, I would buy the benprotein individual packs (I think most drug stores have) and put them in soups, cottage chese or yogart that you may order at a restaurant when you go out.  They are 6 grams of protein in 25 calories and unflavored (more unflavored than Unjury protein powder).  Of course you can also order skim milk and fortify it with some powdered milk to make higher in protein.

Have fun!
Taking it one day at a time....

So glad to hear you're progressing nicely!  I didn't get anything close to my energy bac****il 5 weeks out.  By 8 weeks I had more energy than ever.

My diet was different, as we went right to purees out of the hospital.  But I'll tell you that the energy got better when I finally was getting all my water, protein and vits in.  Not really until then.  If you're already getting them all, you might see some improvement sooner.

Just let your body heal at its own pace and you'll be fine.  Congrats on your success so far!

Thanks guys.  I'm sure I will get more direction on Tuesday.  This group is very directive, to be sure.  I am planning on writting my volunteer group leader about my diet restrictions.  I don't plan on them having anything pureed for me but we also aren't suppose to be able to bring in food so if they can at least supply me with light yogart,, I will be good to go.  I'm sure they will have water and if I need to do the protein in the morning and at night, I can.

My energy level came back slowly. I'd say now at 6 months out I have my energy back, but even at 5 months I felt more fatigue than before surgery.

 Hi Price,

I'm so happy to read that you're feeling better.  I had a different surgery but I think recovery may be similar.  The first 6 weeks or so, all I wanted to do was work my 8.5 hours and go home to relax.  Around week 7 I had more energy and started adding more exercise to the mix.  By the third month I felt like it was all coming together.

Pureed, I did a lot of Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese, pureed chicken with sour cream and salsa and did the same with ground beef too.  I stuck mostly to protein and didn't really start adding any other things until around month 3.  I couldn't tolerate hardboiled eggs until month 5 so tuna salad etc were out for me.

Have fun at the WEG!

Although they say not to bring any with you, I would!
At least some cheese sticks, yogurt and maybe some cottage cheese. Does not have to be a big cooler but something you can have. My experience, when a company says they provide snacks or meals, it is never anything on our type of menu. Good Luck.

Hi Price,
Congratulations on your success so far!!  You are doing great.

I loved Wendy's chili pureed.  I added a little greek yoguart to it for more protein.  I also did the instant mashed potatoes-not sure your plan allows for that.  I used a lot of ricotta cheese with marinara sauce and cheese.  I pureed can roast beef and canned chicken- but had to make sure to add gravey to it so it would be moist.   I also ate a lot of boiled eggs made into egg salad and pureed.  I would sometimes crumble crackers very finely ino that mixture so it had some crunch to it.
