well....got my lab results back.  all my vitamin levels are awesome!  woohoo!!!  my pcp took me completely off my blood pressure meds....another woohoo!!!  my triglycerides went from 400+ to 133.....another woohoo!!!

BUT!!!  my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is way off!  should be no higher than 4.50 and mine is over 12!  i faxed the results to my endocrinologist.  he said that the problem is i'm taking my vitamins too soon after taking my thyroid meds (levoxyl).  so....instead of increasing my dose i'm not to take any vitamins before noon each day (i take levoxyl first thing each morning) and i'm to have more labs done in 4 weeks.  this could be a major cause in the energy deficiency!!! (along with my low bp)

haven't taken bp meds since last wednesday and my bp is hanging in there at about 110/62!

the thyroid issue could also be a reason the scales aren't moving!  oh well......i guess i just need a bit ot tweeking!!

very happy with the vitamin levels!!!!  WOOHOO!!!

I'm glad your labs were good and congratulations on getting off the BP medicine.

Do you have a schedule so you can get all your vitamins and thyroid medicine taken in the day?  I don't know anything about the thyroid medicine, just want to make sure you get all your other vitamins/calcium in also.

Good luck.  Hope your next labs are great!

someone on one of the boards sggested taking the synthroid just before bed since it isn't supposed to be taken near meals.  I started doing that instead of taking them in the morning.  Won't change your levels but it is a thought.

How close together were you taking your calcium or iron to your thyroid medication?  Due to our malabsorbtion, you only have to wait 2 hours after taking your thyroid medication to take either calcium or iron.  You also can't eat or drink anything other than water for 30minutes after taking your thyroid medication either - it must be on an empty stomach.  The other option - new research out is that you can also take it at bedtime on an empty stomach but also not within 2 hours of calcium or iron.

It is very common for us to need dosing adjustments postops, you need to let your endocrinologist know this.  I take both synthroid and cytomel(another thyroid medication) and within the past 2 years have had to have my dosage adjusted 4 times.  The most recent last week.  My TSH was 3.1 was too high for, not as high as yours but she tries to keep my level around 1.0 (I also have hypopituitary so my TSH needs to be lower than the average person) and my T3 level was also very low.  This time she increased my Cytomel to see if that would be enough and I am getting my levels rechecked at the beginning of November. IF they aren't fixed, then she will also increase my synthroid but she couldn't increase them both at one time.

i take my levoxyl around 5:00 am.  would wait til about 8:00 to take the vitamins.  now i wait til around 1:00 pm to take my vitamins.  will see what the next blood test shows.  i was expecting my dose to be reduced in the fact that i've lost 60 pounds.....but....when i found out my tsh level....was shocked!  any way........will do this for 4 weeks and see what happens.  my next appt with him is 10/27.

thanks so much for your input!  thyroid issues just complicate matters!!

First off, it is misconception that losing weight allows us to lower our thyroid doses.  Most of us need to increase our doses.  Like I said, I have lost 100 pounds and have had to increase my doses 4 times and think I will need to increase it again next month.  For some reason, I am not sure why but we just dont' absorb out thyroid medication the way we used to or the surgery just has an effect on our thyroid - maybe a shock to our system.  It is very common, I hear it all the time on here that people have high and many times really high TSH;s and need to increase there synthroid.

As far as your dosing, you were waiting 3 hours and that should have been plenty of time between your synthroid and your calcium or iron - other supplements only need to wait an hour.  To wait 7 hours is unnecessary and will only make your dosing schedule very difficult plus it isn't going to make you absorb it any better.  I bet when you repeat your tests, you will still be high, showing that you are just like everyone else and need to increase your dose. Dont' let her convince you of anything else.  it is only going to slow down your weight loss.  The other thing you might want to suggest is to ask for a thyroid sonogram.  I find that whenever my TSH goes too high, when we do a sonogram they find a new nodule on my thyroid.  They then have to do a biopsy to make sure it is benigh and thankfully they have all been benign so far. I have 4 nodules so far but I am going for another sonogram in November.
