Lactose Intolerance

Someone suggested this may be one of my problems.   When I googled it I recognized several symptoms.

I have always been a dairy lover, I grew up on a dairy farm for God Sakes!

I am going to eliminate dairy to see if this is the culprit.  If you have any tips such as what protein shakes, substitutions etc I would love to hear them.

Thanks

PS Lee I think in the last few days, I remember you replying to someone regarding muscle milk light and GNC having lactose free shakes???

Are you having a reaction to shakes even if you make them with water?  Usually the shakes are actually very low in lactose. A few people are sensitive even to whey protein though and you might want to look for JayRobb egg white shakes. I hear they're a little more grainy in texture than whey but no lactose.

 Hi Brittany,

I was fine with Greek Yogurt. Greek Yogurt is predigested and good for replacing all of the flora that was depleted by the antibiotics we get at surgery.  I've read of people using probiotics to also replace he good bacteria.

It was just the protein powders that bloated me and caused terrible diarhhea.

I used Muscle Milk Light (Costco) and Oh Yeah Ready to Drink Chocolate (GNC) post op.

I also added -

GNC Hydro Whey (30 grams protein per scoop), in both Chocolate and Velocity Vanilla

I think I tried a few samples but they had to say digestive enzymes - lactose free.

After a few weeks I was able to tolerate GNC Optimum Nutrition Rich Chocolate as well as Chike.

I hope this helps!

I hadn't even been doing shakes.   My program enocuraged us to do milk and add powdered milk.  I was on full liquids so once I finished clears (which I could no longer tolerate after throwing them up while I was refluxing.)  So everything I have been ingesting (pudding, milk, cottage cheese, creamy soups) contained milk.

I hope this makes life better, not sure how long it will take the dairy to leave my system, but the incessant burping is already better.

I bought some of the muscle milk light at the grocery so hopefully I can tolerate the taste.  In the past I have never found a protein shake that I have liked.

Have you tried lactaid milk or the enzyme tab you take with dairy?
I found milk just gave me horrible gas and pain, but I can tolerate lactaid milk.
Dont seem to have too much problem with yogurt or cheese.
Good luck!
I know eggface is a soy girl because of dairy issues, check her website out,
the world according to eggface, she has alot of protein shake recipes and suggestions. Plus alot of other fun things too!
