CT of navel and sclerotherapy

Went to my wls surgeon's office this week.  After telling his PA that I am having some soreness in my navel area, I was sent to hospital for CT Scan of my tummy and pelvic.  I think she over- reactive, but I know better safe than sorry, and I do want to know what is going on.

I wonder if it can be scar tissue.  I had a TT and then a revision to TT over two years ago.  Also my RNY was done lapiscopically so went though the navel. I bet they do not find anything and I guess that will be good news.  Anybody have thoughts on this?  She also said it could be hernia, but I do not think so.

Also they want to do EGD with sclerotherapy.  I would like to lose the 15 pounds I have regained, but I do not have much faith in this procedure.  I had one and the weight lost did not stay off.  The PA says they can be more aggressive the second time.  I have faith in my doctor, but I wonder sometimes if this is not a money-making project.  I know very few people have much results with these non-surgical revisions.

Hi Ruby,

It's pretty quiet around here this morning but I bet people will respond to your post.  I'm clueless about your situation, so just wanted to say hello.   I hope everything comes back with a good report.

Thanks for the reply.  I know about the board on the weekend.  I am just home alone and decided to post.  I should hear something next week.  It is probably nothing.  My tummy has been sore off and on since the TT.  Also when I raise my arm my left breast hurts.  It hurt like this after the breast lift.  Not sure why these old hurts are coming back.  Whatever!!!

Oh I have mentioned on the board before, I do have a new pain,  I have a prolapse something or other.  I see GYN next Friday.  I did not mean to ramble.

Have a good weekend.

Hi Ruby. I think the CT scan was a good idea in case it is a hernia.

As far as the sclerotherapy, is that where they inject some saline concoction at the bottom of your pouch to create scar tissue to close the hole a little from the pouch to the intestine? Or do they inject it around various places in the pouch to reduce the volume it can hold? Anything involving creating scar tissue sounds painful but I haven't heard how effective it is long term.

I hope you can figure out what to do soon. You're catching the weight while you can still bring it down. It might take something as simple as strict low carb, or protein shakes only, for a few months but I hope you can find something to work for you. Vitalady has said she had 3 regain periods but was able to bring the weight back down. I know one time she said she did nothing but protein shakes and Labrada Rockin' Roll bars. It took her a few months but it finally came off.

Thanks for reply and advise.  I do lots of protein drinks and walk lots.  I have been able to keep the regain from increasing.  Really it just feels like my body wants to just not let go of the extra weight.  If I do not work at it, my weight increase, so this is not a 'set point.'

You know living on protein drinks in our real world is hard to do.  We have friends who we socialize with over food.  We belong to clubs/groups, that have food every time we meet.  Our friends do not know about my RNY.  Life gets so complicated.   We all know all these things, so forgive me for rambling.  I know, "Come on girl, suck it up and work the program."  Even the weeks after the procedure where you are suppose to follow the diet that we were on after surgery will be a problem if I decide to try it again.  I was not very good at it last time.  Maybe that is one reason it did not work for the long haul.

The PA says the surgeon may want to do this procedure ever few years as a maintenance thing.  I know it sounds crazy to me, too.   The first time I think saline was injected just at the stoma, but I think next time it will be the entire pouch.  As I said, 'I think."  I will ask more questions before I agree to do it.
