I had one of those electronic cigarettes and that really helped last time. Thought I had it licked, sold the thing, ended up smoking again.

I wish you all the best...I'm not a smoker,  but I watched 2 out of 4 grandparents die a horrible death from emphysema.  They had ZERO qualtiy of life for the last few years before their death.  My father in law just had 3/4 of his left lung removed due to smoking induced lung cancer.  He is only expected to live another 6 months.

All that being said, NEVER give up!!!  Your quitting day will come!  You'll be a better example for your children AND your future patients!  Your insides will be as healthy and gorgeous as your outside!!!

You sound like an AMAZINGLY strong and determined person....I bet with perseverance, you'll have the smoking licked in no time!!  Hang in there!  We all have our issues!

I know this doesn't work for everyone and I can't beleive it worked for me.  However, have you tried a hypnotist?  I went to one and quit cold turkey 20 years ago.  Weird, but true.  It's always an option.

That's how 4 different friends of mine quit.  Seems like it's worth a shot...

My fiance did it that way too - took just one session and he quit a 25 year two pack a day habit cold turkey . No cigarettes ever again , period .

I quit smoking cold turkey about 18 years ago, so I know very well what a difficult struggle smoking can be. I tried numerous times, before it finally stuck. It is so highly addictive that one cannot pickup just one cigarrette and be done. 95% of people who pick one back up are back smoking the previous amount. I smoked when I was lighter, heavier, etc. Smoking to keep weight off, is a dangerous path to go down. I've been there.

Have you tried the patches? wellbutrin or zyban? Once you make up your mind to quit, you will do it, but you have to be in the right frame of mind. I know. I used to smoke a pack a day and have been smoke free for 18 years. It was the best thing that I ever did for my health, including WLS.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I stopped years ago but DH smoked for a few years after I stopped.  He is on O2 now and is paying for those years of lung abuse.
Remember all the reasons you lost weight, those are all counter to smoking.  You did a great job on this and I'm sure you will on shaking the cigs.

Shannon- First don't take anything I write as a lecture.  I am a ex-smoker 2 1/2 packs per day at my highest.  I am also a nurse (NP) who sees the effects daily, so I kinda scared myself straight.  I was told by a pulmonologist to get a straw and breath only through the straw for 20min and that would be what my life would be like if I didn't stop.  Having said that it was the single hardest thing I have ever done in my life.  Once you get down to less than 3 cig per day you are no longer battling a physical or nicotine addiction but the psych addiction (which is what you state) you would "rather smoke than"...  Bottom line until you are ready to quit it isn't going to happen.  I think on some level you really want to quit or you wouldn't have posted.  Most of us who are smokers and overwt are hand to mouth or oral people.  What help me some was to cut a straw into cig. lenght and then I could hold it like a cig. and put it in my mouth.  Sounds crazy but it worked and was better than candy.  I tell myself and my patients daily that once a smoker always a smoker so that I never get tempted to pick even one up again.  It does get easier after about 5 years, just kidding.  Good luck with this I know how hard it is.

No lecture from me. I took Chantix pre-op to quite and so far so good...... kind of....
I take a hit of my BF's cigrette maybe once a week.. but I have found the urge to smoke alot more recently cause I need something to do with my hands and mouth... well last week, I ate.. I gained 2lbs.. smoking doesnt taste the same anymore nor does it give me the high, but I just want to do it. Its hard fighting the smoking and food demans at once. I smoked regularly since I was 13 and I feel lost
