where were they when I was too fat?

So I am getting the " you don't want to lose more weight" comments.
I have been thinking about this now for awhile and it occurs to me that these
same people said nothing to me when I was getting fatter and fatter. The worry
when you get too thin is obviously your health..however...you are rarely at risk when
you are too thin unless you are anorexic and god knows none of us are at risk for that? LOL.
Sooo...why when we ARE at risk...when we are overweight and getting heavier and at risk
for diabetes ...stroke...heart attack...does no one say...."hey..you're getting too heavy..hopefully
you don't want to gain more weight now....LOL...obviously it's rude etc...but I just thought it's ironic that we get comments when we are getting healthy suggesting that we may be putting ourselves at risk...and when we are REALLY at risk ...no one says anything....Just a thought for the day.
And I still believe that I will NEVER be too rich or too thin...no chance of that...have a great day.

I have had people comment when I was putting on weight in the past, sometimes it would spurn a new diet, usually not.  But I agree, folks seem to be overly obsessed with us getting too thin....strange.  Oh, well....I've only had a couple of comments like that, but I'm 25-30 lbs above where I want to be.  If (when???) they start coming, hope I am not deterred from my plan.

LOL  I was thinking the same exact thing over the weekend!  We had a wedding on Sat. I had 3 people question me about my weight loss.....whether I was done loosing.....warning not to loose too much more or else I will look anorexic, ect.   Noone ever questioned me when I was gaining all that weight!  lol   Cindy

That's a sharp contrast, yes!

Though I had all kinds of people comment on my gaining weight when that happened.  Maybe it's a cultural difference...

Funny, for me it was "wow, how can you stay so HEAVY, you are so active",  "I can't believe, you hold weight in your legs and butt like you do",  OR "are you sure there isn't something wrong with you?" Or "maybe it just runs in your family so you will always be fat". Yes, the word fat was used often to my face! How unkind people are..............

NOW while I am thin, I hear "you need to stop, you are to thin", "you look gaunt" OR "people won't want to be around you anymore because you are smaller than they are" OR "are you sure you aren't sick?"  and my favorite "you just don't look healthy"......UMMMM I wasn't healthy at 203 lbs, 5'2!
I am thinking my new weight of 122 is pretty darn healthy!

I just let it go in one ear and out the other, for me it was harder to be told to my face how fat I was vs how thin I look now. I feel good about me, and that is all that counts!!!!

You will get use to it....I use to say at some point they will leave me alone, and let it go...now I just don't care. It only goes to show how much I have worked at this and how good I really look! Your friends here, we all understand and that is how I get through my days/nights!

I do believe people think that saying you're getting "too thin" isn't as offensive as saying you're getting "too fat" - thus they have the ability to say it if they want too.

That's a realy good question though.  Maybe next time someone asks me that, I'll ask them why they didn't say anything about not gaining more weight when I was fat.  Betcha they won't say it again....

I have a guy friend that is very thin.  He can eat anything he wants.  As I was losing weight I mentioned a few times he's too skinny.  He then said to me "I would never have thought to say to you that you were too fat before you lost weight"... put it in perspective for me - definitely!

So - skinny people (even naturally skinny people) can be very sensitive to it also.

As Ron White says, ""You cant fix stupid"
I think people are just rude. Everyone is a critic and yet they do not want to deal with their own demons, so they may as well pick on ours. Especially weight, one can not hide.

Weight is such a hot button topic and people get pretty weird about it. I believe most of the comments we get are because we're daring to shake up the social order by not being the Fat Girl any more.
