New to the Lightweights Board...
Wow!!1 I am so glad another member gave me the thread to the "lightweight" board! I am lovin it already. I was feeling pretty down today, having just came home from my 2nd sleep studay, with the Cpap machine... Sleep apnea is my only comorbidity, so I guess I should feel "releived" I have a medical reason to have this covered by mt insurance. My surgeon explained to me a few week's back that for surgery to be accepted by mt BS/BS ppo I needed a comorbidity, what with a BMI between 35-40.
I was lucky enough to have that 2nd test last night due to someone canceling! I received the call within 3 hrs of asking to be on the call in list! (Otherwise I had to wait until Oct. 27th). I am really pushing to get this surgery this year due to very high deductable ($10,000!!!) and my husband needed a hernia repair earlier this year. I still need a psych eval, nut appt etc....
Anyway, love to "meet" you all, and welcome any and all "lightweight" friends!! (I sense I am hard on myself and need the support . Look forward to sharing this journey

Hi Kim! Welcome! I know what you mean about being in a "rush" to get the surgery done. My husband's company I am told is most likely changing insurance next year, and WLS may not be covered anymore, so I am taking control of the situation as much as I can so that I can get this done in November. Good Luck to you!

Hi there!
I am new to the lightweights board too and find it hilarious that anyone considers me light :) hehe
I guess it's all a perspective thing! I just found out that I am probably going to have to start my six month preop diet even though I already had a band, because I had it removed. STUPID!
I hated the band, it didn't work. I couldn't eat protein or many veggies, so what's the point??? Anyways, I've decided on the DS and I'm so excited for something to actually work for me and with me.
I did want to say to be very careful about judging b/c sometimes when you haven't been there.....and you are highly motivated before surgery......it seems easier than it actually is. Let's face it, if we were all disciplined like you described, we wouldn't be here contemplating having our bodies cut into pieces. Everyone stuggles somewhere along their road and we should be here to support oneanother in that time, not say things that place blame, even if it does lie within us. Statistics as a whole DO reflect the surgery as a WHOLE. If 30 percent of LapBanders fail miserably, (I made that statistic up) then 30 percent fail, no matter what the reasons. Again, if we were able to do this on our own, we would. But we need help, and some surgeries help more than others, and NOT b/c we diet and exercise better post surgery.
Edited for spelling and to note : I am in no way AT ALL downing the surgery you've chosen, I was just defending the population who doesn't do well with ALL surgeries. For instance, if 30 percent of DSers have decreased bone density after 3 years (made that up too) then that is just the way it is, no matter the reason, you have to take statistics for what they are and know that for whatever reason, you COULD be in that one third....for one reason or another...but that you can reduce your risk by doing certain things.
