Prove him WRONG!  You can do it!

I'm a revision and my surgeon told me that I may not lose weight. At the time all I cared about was losing the bad affects from my previous surgery and didn't question him but I am assuming it is because I failed my previous surgery so badly that the odds are stacked against me. I have lost over 30 lbs and I am just taking it one day at a time. I know I didn't change me eating habits last time and this time I am so hopefully that will make a difference. I think everyone is individual and no one can know the exact outcome. I'm just doing the best I can today. I don't have any hard and fast goals except to eat a lot of protein and avoid bad carbs.
I am sure you will do great.

Hi. This is my first time posting on the LW Board, although I've been reading your posts for a while now.   I had to post a reply to this b/c I know exactly how discouraged and bummed out you feel.  My surgeon said the same thing to me. He said it is unlikely that I will reach my goal due to some kind of statistical probability something. And I have had to put up with his nurse's comments AND his Nutritionist's naysayer negativity about how much I can and can't lose. Gosh, way to burst my bubble before I'm even out of the gate!  I was beginning to wonder if there was some sort of liability clause in the paperwork that required them to say that!  Who knows.  But since that time (I am now 3 months out) I have talked with many WLS veterans who lost much more than their pessimistic surgeons said they would, so I'm determined to prove my surgeon wrong too.

By the way... what exactly is a light weight? A few people have recommended this forum to me but it had nothing to do with being LW.

Lightweight is a term used to describe someone with a BMI of around 35-40ish.  Usually folks that need to loose 80-110 lbs to get to normal BMI.  But anyone is welcome on this board.  Glad you posted, hope you will again.

Thanks again to all of you for the encouragement.  It really does help.  I worked out with my trainer tonight and she said she fully believes in me and has no doubt I will do as well as I want to.

Kathy:  I guess a lightweight is someone who may not start out with as much to lose as some others or someone who has been relatively small most of their life.  There is a lightweight board creed somewhere in here and it is GREAT.   If someone doesn't re-post it, I will try to find it and post tomorrow.   This is the BEST board on the site, IMHO.

My personal experience and what ive seen posting on OH for over a year and a half is that people who exercise regularly lose almost all their excess weight .

In this respect Ure already well ahead of the game having  stuck to an exercise regime for over two years ( CONGRATULATIONS !! )

I wouldn't worry if I were U ... I think U will do GREAT !

If I can get down to 104-105 at 52 years old, and with a revision, I'm a firm believer that anyone can do it if you want it bad enough. Prove him wrong!!!!

Hi Kat,

You can definitely do it!  I got to a normal bmi with my VSG in about 8 months and to goal at 10 months.  Admittedly, I don't exercise and I do treat myself a little more than occasionally.  With your exercise regime and enthusiam you will have no trouble reaching your goal.  I had always heard that lightweights were more likely to reach goal than most people so I'm surprised to hear the opposite.
