Coffee Protein drinks
Roz tried to get some ideas yesterday but no one was offering so I thought I would try it as specific. When I was on optifast, I started each morning with a vanilla optifast and a spoon of decaf instant. That was fine. I tried on Unjury vanilla with FF milk and coffee and it was horrible. Yesterday I did no milk, water, vanilla and 1/2 tsp coffee and it was better. Of course, I am 6 days out so my taste are still pretty screwy but I would love some coffee, rather decaf, ideas.

I drank decaf early out. There's 2 ways to do it. First: take your coffee cup and make a slurry of your protein powder with some COLD water. You can use vanilla, chocolate, whatever. Then pour the hot coffee on top. The second way: Take your hot coffee, cool it down to under 140 degrees (I've got a meat thermometer I use for that) and put your protein directly into it.
I also like to use Sugar Free syrups, like Peppermint Paddy, Raspberry, etc - your imagination is all it takes to mix up something yummy. I think they taste like lattes. It thickens the coffee to the same consistency. I don't use milk or anything else (except the SF flavorings) in mine.
Get the "adding protein to hot drinks" down first - then start experiementing!
I also like to use the Swiss Miss 25 calorie hot chocolate mix. Do the same as above and add chocolate for more chocolate flavor or vanilla for a creamier flavor.
It will be horrible if the protein is too hot (if not mixed in a slurry first) - its like it curdles and is just downright nasty!! I haven't had any luck microwaving protein itself. Also some say that it will degrade the protein quality.

I did it, I tried it at last! I love my am coffee, have to say I drink full strength stuff since about 4-5 mo out....
Let it cool down, added a scoop of choc protein powder....NOT so bad! I figured with my already spoonful of fiber, and cream added to it what is one more thing! :) I did let it cool down before adding it, mixed well....and yes it is drinkable! This is a positive note for me, I have a hard time getting in all I should eat daily! Not feeling hungry is a hard thing to wrap myself around.
I am ready to slow down the loss. Thinking I could hold myself at 125 was a joke, now at 122. I am waiting to see what the final number will end up at..........How odd does it feel trying to stay at a weight vs dropping it?!

Price, here is how I make mine:
I use a soup cup and put 2 cups of water in it - heat in the microwave for 2 minutes 30 seconds. I put 3 tsp instant decaf coffee & 1 stick of French Vanilla Splenda stir well.
In a separate cup I mix 1/2 cup Hood Calorie Countdown Milk(less carbs/calories/sugar) and 1 scoop Nectar Capaccinno Latte protein powder. Mix it together really good and pour this mixture into the coffee mixture.
You could use brewed coffee and skip the first step. If you pour the milk/protein mixture into the coffee you can let your coffee be hotter. If you pour the protein directly into the coffee it has to be cooler or it will clump up and make a mess!!
Some people add sugar free syrups to theirs to give it different flavors. Sometimes I use the Mocha splenda and sometimes I just use the regular splenda.
Hope you are doing ok.

Gina! Thanks again for the help with my protein coffee, it tastes great. At last I can get more protein in my day! :) Now with the weather getting colder I think I will try hot choc this way too for a late day snack. I have been worried about not getting the amount I need in daily, I was only eating my regular food and a protein bar. I know my intake of food isn't enough so this helps a lot! Thanks!
I mix a half cup of skim milk with Bio X Extreme Whey Protein Isolate (natural or no flavor) and stir well while my half decaf is brewing. I make a small pot with 5 cups that works out to a little more that 2 insulated mugs worth. I add the protein mix divided for each fill up. I don't taste the protein and look forward to it every morning. I don't care for sweet things very much so this works out perfectly.
