I have NEVER had any issues with it, and personally don't know why the surgeon prefers to take it out during WLS. But he did say the CHOICE IS MINE OF COURSE.

 Eh, who needs it?  ;)

But seriously - I had my gallbladder out after having many attacks brought on by rapid weight loss a few years ago.  It took my doctors 6 months to diagnose (after several trips to the emergency department, when they thought I was just trying to get heavy pain meds.  heh.)

Anyway, I've never experienced that much pain.  If I didn't have to go through that, I actually would've had a better life.

Good luck trying to figure this out.

My gallbladder came out in 1992 after a serious diet involving Optifast.  I haven't missed it...

I know there are surgeons that want to do it during WLS - but after WLS you do have a higher risk of having gallbladder issues.

Its up to you.

I had to have mine removed a month after weight loss surgery.  So I would recomend to remove it right away.

So far so good for me.. almost 4 months out. I take my Actigal twice a day religiously. I can't remember what my doc said the statistics are for having problems after WLS. Don't quote me, I'm probably way off, but I think it was something like 30% have problems without the actigal and under 10% if I took the actigal.

Nice you joined us!!!

My DH and one of his friends had their gallbladders out and they both have terrible diarrhea and have to take medication every morning.   With WLS most of us are constipated so maybe that might help you.

My doctor never suggested taking mine out, but because of my DH, I would have said no.

Mine asked me why I hadn't complained about the pain because the duct was full of stones. I hadn't felt a thing! So they took it out, and other than the ache where there was now a "gap" in between my organs right after surgery, I haven't noticed a difference.

I had mine out in 94 after doing the Nutrisystem Diet for several months.  Having it out has not caused any problems with my RNY.

I have never had problems with mine and never took Actigall (sP).  I always say, if it aint broke, don't fix it, but if he sees any problems when he's in there, I would have given permission to yank it.

I don't think it's ethical for a surgeon to take out a perfectly good organ if it's not damaged...
plus you need your gall bladder unless it's damaged or giving you pain...SEAVIEW
