Post-op exercise at 2 weeks

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since surgery. My stamina is pretty low and after going to the grocery store yesterday, I was pooped. How much exercise should I be doing at this point? My surgeon said to push myself at my post-op appointment last Thursday. I am also supposed to start soft foods tomorrow, but I have vomited twice in the past 3 days, after eating cottage cheese, so that one is off my list.

The protein drinks are gagging me and I have been forcing them down and mixing unflavored or vanilla powder in with greek yogurt.

Any suggestions? What were you doing at this point in time?

Thank you ahead of time.

It really isn't a race. If you're not ready, you're not ready. My surgeon doesn't want us doing anything strenuous for a year. So he suggests walking and light weights. If the yogurt and protein powder is working, keep doing that until you're ready to try something new...and you will get to that point, promise.

((hugs))

Hang in there! I am finally able to tolerate some of the shakes now at a little over 6 weeks.
For me it was a lot of trial and error and to make sure I ate slowly.
I would say just keep walking. No sense in overdoing it. I got fatigued easily too, and that gets better with time also.
I think at about 2 weeks I tried refried beans warmed up a bit with some taco sauce. I know it sounds weird, but it tasted good and stayed down. Also cream of chicken with protein powder was a good back up too.
Good luck!

My surgeon encouraged me to start as soon as possible walking 30 minutes a day, so the first couple of weeks I would try to get 15 minutes in the morning & 15 minutes in the afternoon.  (You could even break it down into three 10 minute walks). Now, at 1 month out, I can easily walk the full 30 minutes at once and I try to walk as long as I can.

For the soft food stage, which I am still on, I eat scrambled eggs, egg salad, tuna w/ a little mayo, refried beans, soups, yogurts (greek & carbmasters), grilled tilapia, boiled chicken, deli turkey, soft cheese and some baby food fruit.  I still can only eat about 3 tablespoons at a time so I am still drinking at least one Nectar Fuzzy Navel protein shake a day.

Have you ordered any of the protein shake samples from vitalady?  You can try a variety of them to find something you like.

Your energy level will start increasing.  Your body is adjusting to a huge decrease in fuel so be sure to take your vitamins and drink your water.   Good luck & things will start improving!
