Bounce-Back Weight?

I think this is VERY individual. Some people gain 20 pounds and they never even got to their original goal weight! Others go so low below their goal weight, that if they end up going back up a bit to something they are more comfortable with, I'm not even sure it counts because they really were too skinny and needed to go back up a bit.

I'm up 3 lb from my lowest -- which was uncomfortably low in some ways, but fun in others. I'm happier with my looks now. My legs and arms are actually thinner than at my lowest but the rest of me is more meaty and I even got some boobie back.

I'm a big believer in the idea that every body has a "set point." Mine seems to be 115. My body fights to be that weight with very little effort on my part. If I go too high over that, I get less hungry and I'm down before I can even come up with a plan to fix it. If I go too low, I start feeling like I'm STARVING until I get back up there.

I decided way back when that I wasn't going to fight with my body as long as I could keep my weight under 120 lb. Maybe even under 125. I've just spent way too many years of my life at war with my body and I'm not interested in it any more. It's not worth it to me for that few pounds.

Interesting.  I feel like I have no clue where my set-point might be because I have never been stable at any weight!  I've always either been gaining or losing.

I was definitely stable before I started this process. I wouldn't weigh myself very often, but whenever I did, the scale always said a number between 220 and 223, with occasional forays into 226 and 227 that would immediately go away with no work on my part.

Now I'm in the same state. The only difference is my range is a lot lower! Most days the scale says 114 to 117 with occasional forays into 118 and 119.

I'm so glad you wrote this post Marie.  I feel the same way about the hunger and feeling full, but I thought it was my imagination or my head thinking about what the scale said.

In my head I thought 125 was good for me so I increased my calories by adding another Protein drink and I started losing again right away.  My low was 106 but it only stayed for a few days so I don't even claim it on my ticker but I maintain between 109 and 112.  My skinny friend says that 3 pounds isn't anymore that a good crap and I think she's right...lol.   I'm not sure if the bounce back is true or not, but I'm really happy I let my body go as low as it wanted.  I would hate to bounce up any higher so I weigh myself every day and still watch my totals.  I truly believe though that getting your Protein in is the key to losing and maintaining.

I'm still preop but I definitely believe there is something to this.  When I was a true lightweight, my set point seemed to be 108 after I quit bouncing from 95 to 105.  I had to work to get below it and I felt awful above it.  I maintaned at that weight with no effort until my early 30s.  Since I've been obese, I have gained and lost the same 20 pounds about 20 times only to see the scale just STOP at 193.  So, while my first goal is 115, I am going to strive hard to get to 108 or below and see what happens.

12 days to surgery!!  My new life will begin!!

Blessings,
