Bounce-Back Weight?

Ok, I know that I am nowhere near even beginning to consider this.  However, Veteran Lightweights, I have to know: Should I adjust my goal weight for the bounce-back phenomenon?  I don't want to get down to 130 (which I'd really like to be) and then put on ten pounds of bounce-back weight and go up to 140!

Share the wisdom!

The wisdom that was told to me was go a little bit lower than you're comfortable with so that your bounce back brings you up to where you are comfortable. So if you want to stay within a normal BMI, go down to about a 21 or 22 BMI to handle the little bit of bounce back. And, don't add carbs and expect to maintain long term.

Wow, okay well I want to be in the 130-135 range, no more.  Am I asking too much?  Getting down to 120-125 would put me at a BMI of 19-20.

I guess it depends on your bone structure too. 19 or 20 BMI is pretty lean.

No dietitian is going to tell you that because they're trained to support the US food pyramid even though it isn't scientifically supported for weight loss in obese people. Having said that, the fresh green veggies you eat are perfect for our WLSs. IMO, if we can stay on protein, a few good fats, fresh veggies and a little fruit (in that order), we will have much better odds staying within a normal BMI with the help of our WLSs. The problem is sugar  hiding in our processed and "low fat" foods or the blatantly obvious sugar in desserts. Obese people will convert sugar to fat at the drop of a hat. And yes, we are still obese people even though we get our BMIs down to normal via WLS. Without WLS we'd still have high BMIs regardless of how we eat.

Wellll.... I've found your body may do whatever it wants, regardless of what YOU want it to do!

I initially was happy at 125 with a bounce back up to 130.  Then I got down to 122 and said "ooo - no more than 125".. then I gained back up to 127-128... while I could live with it, I didn't want to.
I really would like to get back down to 120 or so with getting no higher than 125.  Will it happen?  I don't know.

Like Gina said - don't start adding the carbs - that's what did it to me.

I'm 3 1/2 years out. I started at 245ish, and at my low weight ended up at 142. I'm A squeek under 5' 6''. I gained/bounced back 15 lbs. I was wearing a 6 or 29 in jeans. I don't really "buy" the bounce back weight gain. I think I gained 15 back because I slacked and got complacent. I did the SB diet for a couple weeks and got 6 off and have sine gotten 3 more off. Its basically a never ending battle!
good luck    Karen

I would stay on plan and allow your body to go where it wants to...as low as it is ready...then you can adjust if needed. I am 132 and if you would have asked me if I could go below 135...I would have said nope...

Now, I am looking at 125 as my new goal and then see where it goes from there. I am 5'3" and have not seen 130 since 18 years old...lol so this will be interesting.

Hang in there and stay on plan :) let's see where the road takes ya...
