one surgery or two?

I'm trying to get a revsion from the lap-band to the RNY.

I met a surgeon last night who said I'll need two surgeries to lower the risks of leakage.

I wonder if a more experienced surgeon can do it in one without much risk?

Kimberly, I don't know.

Maybe Gina's or mine?

Unfortunately, NC.

I loved your post about the RNY and the DS, very true!

Are the surgeons at Duke telling you 2 surgeries?

I have read of many people who go from lapband to sleeve or rny all in one surgery.  I don't know of any surgeons, but maybe try the revision board or the rny board and find out.

Duke is not getting back with me. I'm starting to feel like a stalker.

I looked on their website and I didn't see revisions being offered.

It seems they want you to fill out a 20 page packet at all these offices before they'll even speak to you.

Kim, one thought, go to the link in the header labeled "Find a Bariatric Surgeon" (it's in green). And then click on NC. You can pick by type of surgery and one listed is revision. I counted 12 on that list, one of which you have eliminated but that still leaves 11 of them.

Then go visit each surgeon's page and see what the people who used them say about that doctor. Some have more testomonials than others. But it's a place to start.

My surgeon likes to do them both at once. He thinks it's safer and better for the patient than two surgeries. I think most surgeons only do two if there is just too much damage to the stomach from the band, but they wouldn't know that until they got in there.

The thing with revisions is that they are riskier than a virgin WLS. So you want someone really, really experienced. It's worth it to travel to get that, IMO.

I'll keep looking.

I'll find a good revision surgeon soon.

Someone mentioned Dr. Fox in Hickory.
