Anyone with pre-op "abnormal EKG"??
What great news to get on Friday at 4:30 pm! The surgeon's office called to tell me after medical review of my file I had an abnormal EKG when I was in for initial physical. So... I have to have medical clearance (or something like that) from my PCP and weight loss for past 2 years documented (which I knew was outstanding). Had to call them back to ask them to send a copy to my PCP -- left her a message, too. She will review it and call me re next steps, if any.
Hoping it was a case of nervousness!!! Of course, I have some odd feelings in my chest now. Did I tell you I am a hypochondriac???
Please let me know if you had this experience???

yes only my WLS surgeion didn't mention it until AFTER my surgery. When I followed up, my PCP said no worries and passed further testing. He said most likely have been that way all my life. I have my annual coming up in a few weeks and told him I wanted more review of the sitatuion even if that means going to a cardio.
After surgery, I was re-admitted due to low potassium and they also noted the EKG abnormal. Cardio said to follow up for a few tests. That did not happen.
Anyway, I know want to follow up just to be sure there are no other issues going on .

My primary doc ordered a stress ekg (the kind where you walk on the treadmill while you're hooked up to the ekg machine.) I was so focused on just being able to finish the test, it never occured to me that it might come back abnormal-but that's what happened. I ended up having to go for a stress echocardiogram and they were able to clear me for surgery that way.
It was kind of scary, but somebody on another board explained to me that it's really common for women to have "abnormal" ekg's when the real culprit is improper lead placement.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on out.

Mine showed bracacardia - a slow heartrate of 48 and also a few other abnormalities which when I showed it to my cardiologist after my surgery she said it is nothing to worry about. I always have a few minor abnormalities that she isnt' concerned about. I get monitored every year with an Echocardiogram and Stress test - I had both of them preop and they were both okay. Echo showed some leaky values but I have had that since I am a kid.
I had some valve issues from dieting with Redux for a year, enough to get me included in their settlement. I had to have a cardiac clearance for surgery whi*****luded another stress echo and did fine. Surgery tomorrow.
What I did find out with the pre surgery testing is that I have a very large hiatal hernia which is why I have had chest pain in the past. It will be repaired with my surgery tomorrow.

I had an abnormal ekg about 5 yrs ago and had a stress echo test and was told everything was fine. Because of that my surgeon required me to have a cardiac clearance and the cardiologist ordered another stress echo test, you do the treadmill then lay on a table and the do a sonagram? i think, they take pictures. All was fine, i got the clearance and the cardiologist told me that i have an extra p wave, which he explained meant that my heart sometimes takes an extra beat, he also said its no biggie and i've probably always had it. So i had my surgery on 5/28/10 and life is good. Of course right now i 'm in a stall but that's ok too. So far i've lost 52 lbs with 48 to go and hopefully i'll be there soon.. Good luck, and don't borrow trouble, its probably no big deal. Good luck jeani
