Do I weigh enough for surgery?
I think you will be fine. I am 5ft 1. I was 193lbs before surgery. I was approved. I was worried about losing weight before surgery too. I did lose weight in the pre op phase but gained it back in the hospital with IV fluids and swelling from a bowel obstruction. The bowel obstruction nearly killed me but luckily I had knowledgeable doctors who performed an emergency surgery to save me.
Before this surgery my problem was no matter what I did I couldn't lose weight. I had co-morbids that were life threatening and a family history that left much to be desired. Since surgery I no longer have comorbids. I am very healthy. I weigh 112lbs. I am 10 months out. My doctor feels I am indeed a success.
Good luck to you! May you make the decision that is best for you.

My surgery is Thursday, woohoo. I am 61, 4'11.5". My heaviest was 220, I weighted 200 this moring. I do have some co-morbilities and a lot of life to live so I was thrilled to be approved and excited to get on with this process.

I began my program with a bmi of 39 with co morbidities. So I know I should be approved by insurance. However, since I have been following the pre-op diet, my bmi is down to 34.
Here's the problem: I need to switch surgeons.
So if I transfer, I am afraid my insurance will use my new lower bmi as a reason for denial.
Does anyone know if this is how it works?

I am 4'9, first weigh in was 198, but my Kaiser records recorded weight also about 5 years before as 207.
My bmi was 42.7 at weight 198, you definatly are in the range. Just because we are not as heavy as some, look at our height.
You will do fine, you have been aproved, that means you qualify missy.
You are young, do it now, before you have all the other problems.
You are so welcome here.. I am with you !!
