got my labs back 22 months out and glad that I get them done often
Post Date: 9/4/10 8:24 pm
I just got back my labs - I am 22 months out and still get them done every 3 months. It is a good thing that I get them done so often since we still find things wrong every time and if I waited 6 months or longer in between labs, I would have big problems. Here goes:
Glucose 81.3
BUN 27.6 High 7-20
Creatinine 0.9
Sodium 143.4
Potassium 3.6 (3.4-5.1) in normal range but am going to ask to be put on some potassium as I have some cramping in my feet and am at the bottom of the range.
Chloride 104.7
CO2 31.3
Calcium 10.1 (9.0-10.5) We usually say that we want lower levels but I think I am absorbing it too well - this is what Andrea said last time when I was at 9.9. I actually increased my dose in case that wasn't the case and my level got higher.
Total Protein 7.6
Albumin 4.4
Uric Acid 4.0
Total Bilurubin 0.4
AST 51.5 not sure why this went up - might be the protonix and zocor
ALT 65.6 - same as above
Alkaline Phospate 80.2
WBC 4.4
RBC 4.9
HGB 13.7
HCT 41.7
MCV 84.9
MCH 27.9
MCHC 32.9
Platelets 113 Low but good for me
Triglycerides 89.2
Cholesterol 140.5
HDL 54.3
LDL 68.4
Total T4 7.2
T Uptake 32.8
TSH 3.10 much too high - have to talk to Endo about increasing Synthroid
Free T3 2.4 too low - have to talk to Endo about increasing Cytomel
Total T3 83.5 same as above
Free T4 101
Hem A1C 4.9
Vitamin B12 greater than 1000
Ferritin 91.5 (started taking 180mg of tender irons and ferritin went up from 48 to 88 in 1 month but in past 3 months it only went from 88 to 91. Should I increase my tenders further?)
Folate greater than 24
LH 33.2
FSH 76.8 Post Menopausal
PTH 30.1 down from 40 - 3 months ago. Best one I have had yet.
GFR 71.3 should be greater than 60
Vitamin B1 - 77 high (9-44) considering I was B1 deficient, I am happy with this. I may cut my dose of B1 a bit.
Vitamin K1 - 457 up from 134 - 6 months ago. (80-1160)
DHEA 2.87 (1.30-9.80) This is an adrenal hormone that I take due to a deficiency. Thankfully no that I supplement it, I am back to normal.
Vitamin D 25hydroxy - 107 up from 89 - 3 months ago. I am sure my Endo will say this is too high but I am very happy with it.
Phorphorus = 2.5 (2.5 - 4.5) bottom of normal range but 9 months ago I was at 3.9 - What does this mean?
Magnesium = 2.1 (1.5-2.5)
Iron 100 (50-170)
Iron Binding capacity 360
Iron Sat % 27.8
UIBC 260
Vitamin A 95 (38-98) Is this too high? Being I take Dry vitamin A, is that like taking Dry vitamin D3 which doesnt' get toxic? I was at 81 - 3 months ago.
Selenium 174 high (63-160) down from 230 - cut my dose from daily to 4 times per week 3 months ago and it brought my level down, so I will continue doing that and it should continue to go down. I was severely deficient early out.
Zinc = 105 (60-130 ) down from 140 last time. I really think last time was a lab error because I dont' take any zinc and didnt' make any changes, so for it to be that high last time made no sense and then for it to go down that much with out making a change is very strange.
This is a list of what I take:
Centrum Silver chewables 2 times per day
Bariatric Advantage Chewables - calcium citrate 3 times per day (3 days) and 4 times per day (4 days)
B12 injections 3 times per week
Tender Irons 180mg per day
50,000 units of Dry D3- 3 times per week
50,000 units of Dry vitamin A daily
200mcg of selenium 4 times per week
300mg of vitamin B1 daily
I would appreciate any comments you have. I can't talk to my Endocrinologist about my labs for atleast 3 weeks since she is very religious and the Jewish Holidays start on Wednesday. So, I got the copies and I will call her office on Tuesday but she wont' be able to call me bac****il after the holidays.

I'm thinking you might want to add some more magnesium citrate with your calcium and also go ahead and take some potassium as well. I think you want your magnesium closer to 2.5.
Your protein and albumin is awesome.
Have you thought about taking Milk Thistle for your liver? It might help bring the AST and ALT numbers down.
Your iron is looking very nice and the ferritin isn't bad. I think I'd stick with the 180mg of Tender and see what your next labs look like. Ferritin may just be slow to catch up. Or, you might want to think about adding a Proferrin ES at bedtime to give you a double-barreled approach to iron and ferritin.
I had to cut selenium down to 100mcg every other day to start bringing it down. The doc said no biggie if it was a little high though.
I also had to cut my vitamins A back a bit because I was coming in over the top the past 2 or 3 draws. I now take 50,000IUs 3 times a week and the other days just 25,000K. You're not too high and hitting the top of the range is great. You might find that once you hit the top you can cut back a little and maintain.
**I know we're different surgeries, so adjust as you see fit.

Thanks for responding. Why should magnesium be so high? The range is from 1.5 - 2.5? So, isn't 2.1 right where we want to be? I have been at this level for years, even preop. I would think 2.5 would be too high at the top of the range?
As far as my liver function goes - I thought about the Milk Thistle but when I look at my spreadsheet of my labs, ,my ALT and AST are high every other time. They keep going up and down on there own and the doctors including my Gastro doctor who is a liver specialist said not to worry about it.
Before adding Proferrin, I think I am going to add one more Tender and see if that helps a bit. I hate to spend the money for proferrin if I dont' have to.
The A I think I will hold where it is until next draw and hope it doesnt' go up more. But do you know the question about is Dry vitamin A - does it go toxic? or is it like Dry D and it doesn't go toxic?

When I spoke with my doc this last time, he said he really likes to see magnesium at 2.5 or even a little higher. I asked about it being top of the range and he said that was a great place to start.
I don't really know the answer to the dry A question. I would think it would be like dry D but better check it out with Michelle to be sure.
