My Six Month Follow-up Appointment
Hi Linda, your plan is closer to mine, except for the snack.
I've been having 1 protein shake a day as a replacement for my breakfast. The other two meals are food. I'm going to see how I do without the snack. I can honestly say that I always look forward to a little snack, so maybe it's an emotional thing more than a physical need for me. I know I have to pack in more dense protein to keep me full longer now. I'm hoping it will up my weight loss if I do. I guess it's worth a try! I understand about feeling deprived. My weight loss has been slower but I haven't felt deprived for a minute because I eat everything except junk, just very small amounts.

Oh, I dunno Lee - my surgeon's office is strict about 3 meals per day as well, although they don't count protein shakes as meals (but they want no more than 1 per day, and eat the rest of the protein).
That's why I was so surprised when they said I could add a 4th snack/meal last week after I whined about my skeleton showing through again.
As far as age - it's only a number unless it comes with something good (like 16 comes with driving, 21 with drinking, 25 with insurance cost reduction... that kind of stuff). So ignore the number unless you like what comes with it!

Rebecca, I'm glad to hear that you surgeon also likes the 3 meals a day. That said, how cool that they don't count the shake as a meal. I think I'm going to pretend that I have YOUR surgeon because that's really what I do. Protein shake breakfast, lunch, very small meal at 4pm and then dinner. So in essense I have 1 shake, 2 meals and one very small meal of around 100 calories.
I'm not minding the 60 but ask me again in a month. :)

Congrats on the great visit, Lee.
I'll just say that I'll have to disagree with your surgeon on your 3/a day plan. My meter says differently and so does my endocrinologist. For someone with reactive hypoglycemia like I have within my diabetes, 6 small meals/snacks is much better. But then that's me.
I hope you can make yours work.

Hi Liz, thanks for chiming in. I think more people disagree, than agree, but this is the facility that I went to because of my insurance. The funny thing is that there are two Kaisers within 20 miles of mine and both of them encourage protein shakes. So go figure...
I'm glad you're finding what works for you. I think I'm doing the same. :)

I don't believe VSG'ers suffer from low's but just be aware of any odd feelings between meals. Make sure you keep some kind of peanut butter cracker snack with you just in case. Better safe than sorry. I'd hate for you to suffer from hypo because of that 3 day plan.
Anyway, just be prepared and you probably won't ever need it.
