Today is My Six Month Anniversary

Hello Everyone, so today is my six month anniversary. I'm very curious about where I will be by 1 year. I have no more then 40lbs to lose, and my doc would be happy with 20. Here is a list of what has happened so far and I'm good with it.

1.) No more diabetes and not one high blood sugar since before surgery.

2.) I've reduced my chances of major cancers in my life time by 80%

3.) I was headed towards high blood pressure and now it is excellent.

4.) I've averaged a 6 lb per month loss. That is 42 lbs since surgery and 55 since my heaviest. Better then my bariatric team hoped for given my long health history with metabolic issues. I will lose between 20 and 40 more. The team would be happy with 20. I'm happy now, but we'll see.

5) I've lost 10 points on the BMI chart and lots of inches. I haven't tracked that.

6.) Because of all the exercise I've done, I have the heart rate of an athlete.

7.) I am less stressed, much happier and more confident, the latter I wasn't expecting

8.) I've made countless changes to my eating habits and I no longer desire things that aren't good for me.

9.) I've adjusted to the psychological challenges of a rapidly changing body well and anticipate no problems.

10.) I can do things with and move my body in ways I never could before, for example crossing my legs comfortably.

Thanks to all of you for helping me to stay the course because I've been too hard on myself at times and then I stay away from the boards, when I should be turning to all of you.  I was the lightest patient my surgeon ever operated on at 222 and 5'2. He told me my weight loss may be low because of the all the metabolic issues I had, but it seemed slower then I wanted and I had a hard time seeing other peoples success. I was happy for them yet beating myself up.

Well, that's it.

Hi Gina, I can't thank you enough for your kind and reassuring message. What I've learned more then anything over the past six months is that my perfectionist tendencies are really destructive to my well being.

I'm going to keep on working on self acceptance and staying in touch with this group.

You  are so supportive and a blessing!
Andrea

Thank you so much. I am learning slowly but surely that I have to put one foot in front of the other doing what I need to do and the weight will come off. Just not as fast as I'd like it too!. Good luck. You'll get there. It is such an individual journey.

Linda, what a nice post. I need to be as positive towards myself as I am to others. It really is a great success in just six months when I put it into the perspective of how unhealthy I was for most of my life.
