Fitness Challenge Question - Newbie
Ok, I admit that I didnt really read this thread much pre op because, well....lazy I guess! But I am one week out tomorrow and I know I need to start doing something to get the most out of this surgery. So, what you you guys recommend for a newbie? Of course I own just about every machine under the sun, most as clothes dryers!! lol.... treadmilll, elyptical, recumbant bike, mini trampoline, exercise ball, streatchy bands, wii fit. I know I cant do to much since I am still recovering, but any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks! Joan
Hi Joan!! Welcome to the bench baby!!
I started with the walking then progressed to the elliptical and weights and then to running (treadmill and outside) and weights. I say do what you are allowed to do at this time being 1 week out (no heavy lifting) and find what you love to do. The goal is to keep moving. :)
How are you feeling? How's your recovery so far?

Hi, thanks! Actually it has been pretty good so far. Still some pain (feels like a stitch in my side) if I am on my feet to much. Cant walk very far. But no neasuea (sp) or anything. I feel pretty lucky! See the surgeon tomorrow to get this pesky drain removed, cant wait! Maybe I can start slow on the treadmill.....its so hot here the past few weeks. I just want to make sure I make the most of this tool while in the honeymoon phase!!
Welcome home, Joan. I walked the dogs around the house a few times a day my first couple of weeks but then started adding more walks and making them longer throughout the Fall and Winter months that first year. All I've done is walked, because I like it, and just recently started adding push-ups that I do at a 45 degree angle (they don't hurt my back). Start slowly and just do something to get yourself moving. You don't have to become an iron woman triathlete.

Welcome home Joan! Like others, I started with walking. Take it slow. You know what they say, slow and steady wins the race. I don't think I was cleared for weights et****il I was three months out so I did a lot of walking. I didn't really step up my exercise big time until month three. I wish I had started sooner. Good luck! You're going to do great. :)

Hi Joan, glad you are wanting to get with the exercise routine. We were told only walking or stairs for the first 3 weeks. I agree, take it slow and easy esp the lst month...and do something you like to do...you'll stick with it better. I have a trainer and she keeps me motivated and keeps it interesting and varied. Since you have all the equipment (LOL), maybe mix it up, one day treadmill, one day elyptical, etc. Good luck on your journey. Jane
