Lab Results - Feet are still numb

The tops of my feet are still numb.  I have increased my b-12 from 500 sub to 2000 per day.  I have my labs done locally and take them to my appt with my surgeon because he is 5 hours from home.  I have an appt to see him on 9/9/10.   Here they are.  What do you think?

Did you just recently increase your B12 to 2000mcg daily? If you did, then continue it because your B12 level is very low. If you have been on the 2000mcg for a few months, then you need to increase it further.

Your vitamin D is very low. I would recommend you go to vitalady.com and get some Dry D3, D3-50 from biotech and take it 2 times per week. This should bring your level up nicely.

You are anemic. Your ferritin is okay but you dont' have an actual iron count listed. Since your B12 is on the low side but not low enough to make you anemic and your folate is good, the anemia must be from your iron. How much iron are you taking and what type? You need to be taking carbonyl iron plus vitamin C to aide in absorbtion. While at vitalady.com getting your vitamin D, also get some Tender Iron - they are 60mg per capsule - take 2 per day (all in one dose) they also have the necessary vitamin C in the capsule. This should help with the anemia. This type of iron is easy on your stomach and doesnt' cause constipation.

Your protein levels are too low, I would add some protein to your diet daily - if possible add a protein drink daily - this can give you up to 30 grams per day

You also need to get other labs done - vitamin A, zinc, selenium, iron, copper and vitamin B1. The copper and B1 can be linked the numbness - they can lead to nerve damage when deficient.

I agree with rbb's suggestions, but I'm thinking if it were me, I'd go ahead and add a B-complex tablet or capsule. They come in 50 and 100's meaning the complex is either 50mg/IUs or whatever or 100. B1 is another B vitamin deficiency that could cause the numbness but our surgeons rarely put those on lab scripts unless you ask for them. It wouldn't hurt anything to start a B-complex to see if it helps. Then get your B vitamins checked the next time you have labs drawn.

Thanks to both of you.  I am taking B.A. 29 mg iron w/ vitamin c.  I will check out your suggestions and make some adjustments.  I have to leave for work so I'm going to look closer to this when I get home.  Thanks for the help.

And the magnesium level. Any heart palpitations, anything like that?

Way, way low. It's one of the ones that doesn't show low until it is VERY low, all tissue has been drained of it.

Magnesium citrate (pills, not bowel prep) will help raise that level.

Magnesium OXIDE will not help. Makes you poop.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Thanks Michelle,
I have had heart palpatations for years.  Should I use the one that says Tender Magnesium?  and how much should I take?
