Good Morning. Got good references?
Good Morning Gina! I thumbed thru a few books but don't remember the titles but my biggest resource was going to a support group at a local hospital that included every type of WLS. That's where I found the DS people. They were the last group I sat with and they were just a different happy bunch of people. I then searched out a fantastic DS doctor and went to his seminar where it became clear to me that DS is what I needed what with 4 co-morbidities. It's not for everyone and Dr. Anthone and I talked at length about habits and goals and what we thought the surgery should look like. He modified the surgery to suit me and my habits and body type. I am so far very happy with the results and if I never lose another pound ....or gain any!......I will be a happy man! My advice is to do lots of research before that first meeting with the surgeon so you can make informed rational thought provoking decisions. Great topic....Ma'am
I bought Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and liked it. I am now reading Garth Davis' book The expert's guide to weight loss surgery - how to keep the weight off. I have purchased several cook books, but really get better info here sharing recipes.
I love the Weight loss surgery for dummies book and would recommend it to everyone.
I am enjoying Garth Davis' book, but he has some different ideas about protein drinks and food that I don't agree with.
I did find one statement in his book very interesting and I'm actually trying to do this - Do not buy anything from the inside aisles at the grocery store - you are much better off getting things from the outer aisles. Fresh fruits/vegetables, meats, dairy. I never really thought about that much until I read it in his book.
Can you tell I love to read!!
I also read everything I could on-line. I started out on Lapbandtalk.com and then moved to Obesity Help when I changed types of surgery.

I read a couple. Weight loss surgery for dummies and Barbara Thompson's , I am not sure of the title, something like the Skinny person within you.
Both were great resources and were right on track. I have given mine away though already.
My book from the Cleveland Clinic is a great resource too. Had everything I needed to know.

I have WLS For DUmmies but I didn't like it. It didn't have any info on the sleeve and a lot of what was in there about other surgeries was out of date. I got most of my info from researching online and visiting various boards to see what life was like post-op from the people living it.
