Do lightweights loose at a slower pace?
My RNY was done May 4th and I've lost 50 lbs. I started at 237 (257 at my highest) and down from a size 18/20 to a size 12/14.
I know I shouldn't but of course I compare myself to others who have had the same surgery around the same time as I did. It seems like everyone else has lost 75+ lbs and I've *only* lost 50, so what gives?
I seem to even gain a lb or two, (or three if I'm retaining water) and it takes about a week to get it off, then usually comes off with a extra lb or two.
I guess I'm just frustrated

My surgery was in February and i consider myself a very slow loser.
I think there are lots of factors involved. Being a LW might have it go slower. Factor in age, metabolism, quantity of food, protein, fluids, exercise. It all makes a difference.
I'll be curious to see what others say. Some people on the LW board have been very fast losers.
Hang in there and just keep working your program. I say it's not how fast we get to goal, but where we are in 5 years that will really matter.

I'm pretty sure that someone asked this on here not that long ago, and I remember the answers surprising me. Seems that many lws lose pretty quickly. Many others do not. I think you'd find that on non-lw boards, too.
The actual number of lbs lost may be smaller for someone starting under 250 than for someone starting over 300 in the same time frame, but I believe that, generally, the % of excess weight tends to come off at very comparable rates.
Some people who "lose slower" do well to pay close attention to measurements. Are you working out a lot? You might be adding heavier muscles, but burning more fat. That kind of info doesn't show up in BMI calculations or on a scale. Are you sticking to your plan? If so, I really believe you have nothing to worry about.
Anyway, I'm told that average weight loss is 2-3 lbs per week. From what I can tell, you're doing even better than that, right?
Good luck!

You can't look at absolute pounds! If someone had 300 pounds to lose and loses 75, they are actually much further behind in their journey that you are at 50 pounds lost and pretty much half-way to goal.
Many lightweights lose all their excess weight in the first year while many heavyweights take two years to do it. Therefore, by the measure that counts -- how long you have to be "on a diet", lightweights generally lose faster, not slower.

We had surg on the same date!! My HW was 240, SW 221, CW 181...after the lst week I have been loosing about 2 lbs a week....I've had a couple of stalls too. Not to worry, you sound like you are right on target.... I know I get impatient and frustated, ESP during a stall. BUT....I survived each one and as long as I am sticking to my program have to BELIEVE I will continue to loose fairly consistently. Good luck to you on your journey. PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE.
I actually asked my surgeon about that same thing when at 8 weeks out I had "only" lost 24 pounds, She af course pointed out that that was an average of 3 lbs a week & not bad at all. She said it is really all about the precentages. Someone who is a lightweight has less to lose to begin with but when matched percentage wise - it is comparable to those that have more to lose to start with. Ironically, since that app, I have lost another 7 pounds (broke thru a small stall) so now I am thrilled that at the 2 month mark (tomorrow) I am over 30lbs lost. :)
