Wish I had known...6 month diet
I started my 6 month supervised diet today with my primary care doctor. I found out Friday that my insurance requires this. Why in the world didn't they tell me this back in February when I started this! Then they said the only requirement was a complete physical and detailed documentation of diets I have tried. Now, I have gone to the required seminars, had pysch. eval done, met with nutritionalist, had blood work drawn...and NOW after they submitted it for approval, I find this out! Grrrrrrr!
Oh well, I guess in the big scheme of things, 6 months isn't really that long. I promise to stay positive and just do what I gotta do!

UGH - how disappointing! But you have the right attitude - get started with it and 6 months will fly by!

Awe....I bet that was disappointing news. It seems like you have a good attitude though. Are you going to a General Surgeon or to a Specialist? If you are going to a Specialist then I would think they should have told you. They should know what each Insurance company requires. Mine told me on my first visit.
You might want to ask your PCP about all of the stipulations. I was told that I couldn't skip a single month and they had to be the same week each month or I would have to start over. When my PCP was on vacation, they arranged for me to see someone else so I wouldn't be late having my weigh in.

Hi Beverly,
Do you have six months in a row of going to any doctor where they weighed you in each time? I was able to use my Diabetes classes/exercise program to count towards my 6 months. I just had to fax in the chart that showed my weight each month(mine was actually each week).
I know you have had some testing and other things - maybe you could round up six consecutive months and your PCP would sign off on them.
Try to get the requirements in writing so they can't change on you again. Keep up the great attitude!!
Do you have state health insurance? Hope everything is going ok with you.

I didn't have to do the 6 month diet history but did have to have a 5 yr weight history. I could have used my Curves weigh in if needed by my PCP got everything they needed. I also got all my requirements the first meeting with my practice. So sorry you didn't have that info sooner. I would contact them and be sure there is nothing else lurking out there.

Oh Beverly,
I' m so sorry you just found out about this. Is there any chance you were going to WW where they weighed you in?
Your great attitude is going to serve you well in this process because it can at times get frustrating, like now. If you can, I'd use the time to deal with any "eating" issues that you might have so that you'll have an easier time following the plan post-op. They operate on our stomach, not our head so often there's some work to do in that area. Also, I'd get a really great exercise routine going that will carry you post-op as well. I was exercising but I wish I had been even more consistent and had a better routine going. Please feel free to join in our daily Fitness Challenge thread if you'd like. We challenge ourselves, not each other.
I hope you'll stick around here so that we can get to know you!
